2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Laverne S. "Bitz" Brown of Joliet, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on November 9, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was born in Joliet on April 19, 1924 | ||||||
6 | to Seward and Florence (nee Wilhelmi) Brown; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Joliet Township High School in 1942, Northwestern University, | ||||||
8 | and was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters from the | ||||||
9 | University of St. Francis in Joliet; he served his country in | ||||||
10 | the United States Navy during World War II; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Laverne Brown, along with his good friend, Paul | ||||||
12 | Lambrecht, founded Brown and Lambrecht Earthmovers; he served | ||||||
13 | as Director of Amerifed Savings Bank; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was Trustee of the Operating | ||||||
15 | Engineers Pension Fund, Trustee Emeritus of the University of | ||||||
16 | St. Francis, and a member of the Lewis University President's | ||||||
17 | Council, the Rotary Club of Joliet, the Joliet Country Club, | ||||||
18 | and the Old Marsh Golf Club; he was also an Associate of the | ||||||
19 | Joliet Franciscans; and

20 | WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was the recipient of many civic and | ||||||
21 | charitable awards for his dedicated service and thoughtful |

1 | generosity; he was a skilled pilot, world traveler, avid | ||||||
2 | sportsman, and enthusiastic card player; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was preceded in death by his | ||||||
4 | parents; his brother, Wayne Brown; his mother and | ||||||
5 | father-in-law, Frank and Rose Maxwell; his sister-in-law, | ||||||
6 | Lorriane Bily; his brother-in-law, Frank Maxwell; and his | ||||||
7 | niece, Marybeth Dopudja; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Laverne Brown is survived by his wife of 67 years, | ||||||
9 | Dorothy Maxwell Brown; his sisters-in-law, Joan (the late | ||||||
10 | Laverne "Chip") Vollmer and Betty Maxwell; his brother-in-law, | ||||||
11 | James (Mary) Bily; his nephews, James (Emi) Brown, Jim (Linda) | ||||||
12 | Bily, Tim (Nadine) Bily, Mike (Christy) Bily, Patrick (Julie) | ||||||
13 | Bily, Mark (Jan) Maxwell, and Michael (Janine) Vollmer; his | ||||||
14 | nieces, Candy (Mike) Wagner, Cindy (Jeff) Bily, Marcia Maxwell, | ||||||
15 | Sharon (Jack) Tweedle, and Susan (John) Reed; his cousins; his | ||||||
16 | great-nieces and nephews; his faithful cousin, Marlene Walker; | ||||||
17 | and many dear friends; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Laverne S. "Bitz" Brown, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
21 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
