SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Laverne S. "Bitz" Brown of Joliet, who
4passed away on November 9, 2013; and
5 WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was born in Joliet on April 19, 1924
6to Seward and Florence (nee Wilhelmi) Brown; he graduated from
7Joliet Township High School in 1942, Northwestern University,
8and was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters from the
9University of St. Francis in Joliet; he served his country in
10the United States Navy during World War II; and
11 WHEREAS, Laverne Brown, along with his good friend, Paul
12Lambrecht, founded Brown and Lambrecht Earthmovers; he served
13as Director of Amerifed Savings Bank; and
14 WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was Trustee of the Operating
15Engineers Pension Fund, Trustee Emeritus of the University of
16St. Francis, and a member of the Lewis University President's
17Council, the Rotary Club of Joliet, the Joliet Country Club,
18and the Old Marsh Golf Club; he was also an Associate of the
19Joliet Franciscans; and
20 WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was the recipient of many civic and
21charitable awards for his dedicated service and thoughtful

1generosity; he was a skilled pilot, world traveler, avid
2sportsman, and enthusiastic card player; and
3 WHEREAS, Laverne Brown was preceded in death by his
4parents; his brother, Wayne Brown; his mother and
5father-in-law, Frank and Rose Maxwell; his sister-in-law,
6Lorriane Bily; his brother-in-law, Frank Maxwell; and his
7niece, Marybeth Dopudja; and
8 WHEREAS, Laverne Brown is survived by his wife of 67 years,
9Dorothy Maxwell Brown; his sisters-in-law, Joan (the late
10Laverne "Chip") Vollmer and Betty Maxwell; his brother-in-law,
11James (Mary) Bily; his nephews, James (Emi) Brown, Jim (Linda)
12Bily, Tim (Nadine) Bily, Mike (Christy) Bily, Patrick (Julie)
13Bily, Mark (Jan) Maxwell, and Michael (Janine) Vollmer; his
14nieces, Candy (Mike) Wagner, Cindy (Jeff) Bily, Marcia Maxwell,
15Sharon (Jack) Tweedle, and Susan (John) Reed; his cousins; his
16great-nieces and nephews; his faithful cousin, Marlene Walker;
17and many dear friends; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Laverne S. "Bitz" Brown, and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
