| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Sharon Kay Johnson, who passed away on | ||||||
| 4 | June 21, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Sharon Johnson was born in Peoria; her parents | ||||||
| 6 | were Arthur and Cecilia (nee Lamanski) Hahnerhoff; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Sharon Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts from | ||||||
| 8 | Southern Illinois University, a Master of Science from Southern | ||||||
| 9 | Illinois University at Edwardsville, and a Ph.D. from St. Louis | ||||||
| 10 | University; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, In 1985, Sharon Johnson founded Practical Rehab | ||||||
| 12 | Services, an organization that has provided medical | ||||||
| 13 | rehabilitation services in the area for 30 years; she was a | ||||||
| 14 | very respected, beloved, and dedicated clinician who helped to | ||||||
| 15 | improve the lives of many local residents through her work as a | ||||||
| 16 | Speech Language Pathologist; she was an expert in brain | ||||||
| 17 | injuries and stroke recovery and was a former president of the | ||||||
| 18 | Brain Injury Association of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Sharon Johnson was an active member of the Alton | ||||||
| 20 | business community; she was the first woman president of the | ||||||
| 21 | Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club as well as a passionate supporter of | ||||||

| 1 | Alton and the greater St. Louis area; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Sharon Johnson and her former husband, Larry | ||||||
| 3 | Johnson, raised 4 sons while traveling the world; during their | ||||||
| 4 | almost 8 years living overseas, she taught English in American | ||||||
| 5 | schools in both Germany and Iran while her former husband | ||||||
| 6 | worked for the United States Department of Defense; after | ||||||
| 7 | returning to Illinois, she earned her advanced degrees and | ||||||
| 8 | began her career in speech therapy; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Sharon Johnson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 10 | parents and her husband, Larry Powers; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Sharon Johnson is survived by 3 siblings, Robert | ||||||
| 12 | Hahnerhoff, Arthur Hahnerhoff, Jr., and Cindy Leah Hahnerhoff; | ||||||
| 13 | 4 sons, Kent (Lori) Thomas, Blake (Mara) Douglas, Lance | ||||||
| 14 | (Carrie) Christopher, and Eric (Jill) Spencer; 8 | ||||||
| 15 | grandchildren, Anna, Erin, Conor, Catherine, Abigail, Spencer, | ||||||
| 16 | Andrew, and Calder; a great-grandchild, Jayden; and her former | ||||||
| 17 | husband, Larry Johnson; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||
| 20 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Sharon Kay Johnson; | ||||||
| 21 | and be it further
