| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Purple Day is a global effort dedicated to | ||||||
| 3 | promoting epilepsy awareness in countries around the world; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological | ||||||
| 5 | conditions, estimated to affect over 50 million people | ||||||
| 6 | worldwide and over 3 million people in the United States; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, More than 130,000 Illinoisans suffer from | ||||||
| 8 | epilepsy; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, One in ten persons will have at least one seizure | ||||||
| 10 | during his or her lifetime; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The public is often unable to recognize common | ||||||
| 12 | seizure types, or how to respond with appropriate first aid; | ||||||
| 13 | and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Purple Day will be celebrated on March 26 annually | ||||||
| 15 | to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and improve the | ||||||
| 16 | quality of life for people with epilepsy throughout the country | ||||||
| 17 | and the world; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate March 26, | ||||||

| 1 | 2010, as "Purple Day" in the State of Illinois in an effort to | ||||||
| 2 | raise awareness of epilepsy in the United States and Illinois; | ||||||
| 3 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to the Purple Day Organization with our support and | ||||||
| 6 | respect.
