| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Walter Schmidt of Waukegan, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 3, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt was born on September 21, 1930 in | ||||||
6 | Chicago; his parents were Roman and Carolyn Schmidt; he married | ||||||
7 | Eileen Kaas in 1957; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt graduated from St. Michael's | ||||||
9 | Grammar School and Lane Tech High School; he subsequently | ||||||
10 | earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the | ||||||
11 | Illinois Institute of Technology; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt served his country as a member of | ||||||
13 | the United States Army for 2 years; during his time in the | ||||||
14 | Army, he served in Germany for one year; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, After working for Wilson and Company for a short | ||||||
16 | time, Walter Schmidt accepted a job with the Linde Division of | ||||||
17 | Union Carbide; he later worked at North Chicago Refiners and | ||||||
18 | Smelters as a plant engineer until his retirement in 1996; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt was an active member of the | ||||||
20 | German-American Club - DANK Chapter of Lake County, the |

1 | American Institute of Plant Engineers, and the Waukegan Moose | ||||||
2 | Lodge; he also served as a volunteer at Vista Medical Center | ||||||
3 | East Hospital; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
5 | Eileen, and his parents; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Walter Schmidt is survived by his children, | ||||||
7 | Kathryn (Steve) Wells, Sharon (Bruce) Jordan, Sandra (Nick) | ||||||
8 | Godellas, Wayne (Ruth) Schmidt, and Kenneth (Linda) Schmidt; | ||||||
9 | his grandchildren, Austin, Erika, Lauren, Chelsea, Joy, | ||||||
10 | Nicole, Gregory, Jennifer, Stephanie, Ashley, Christopher | ||||||
11 | (Liz) Rathbone, and Candice; his great-grandchildren, Bryce | ||||||
12 | Langdon, Kyler Becker, and Addison Rathbone; his brothers, | ||||||
13 | Roman and Herbert; and his close friend, Gert Vardeman; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
17 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Walter Schmidt; and be | ||||||
18 | it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Walter Schmidt as an expression of | ||||||
21 | our sympathy.
