| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of
Ray Schmitt; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt devoted more than 20 years of service | ||||||
| 5 | to the City of Streator as both a City Council member and | ||||||
| 6 | mayor; in 1999, he was elected to serve as the Mayor of the | ||||||
| 7 | City of Streator; he was voted to serve for a third term in | ||||||
| 8 | April of 2007; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt was employed at the Owens-Brockway | ||||||
| 10 | Glass factory for approximately 40 years; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt was active in numerous charitable | ||||||
| 12 | events; he brought Relay For Life to the city after losing his | ||||||
| 13 | sister to breast cancer; he also volunteered for Light Up | ||||||
| 14 | Streator and served as a guest speaker at several community | ||||||
| 15 | service organizations; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt enjoyed spending time with his | ||||||
| 17 | grandchildren; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt is survived by his wife, Donna, and | ||||||
| 19 | their 3 children; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt will be remembered by all who knew and | ||||||
| 2 | loved him as a plain-spoken and compassionate man whose love | ||||||
| 3 | for his family and city were unmatched; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 6 | his family and friends, the passing of Ray Schmitt; and be it | ||||||
| 7 | further
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 9 | presented to the family of Ray Schmitt as an expression of our | ||||||
| 10 | sympathy.
