| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Fred Joseph Snodgrass of Virden, a proud | ||||||
| 4 | Doorman for the Illinois Senate, who passed away on April 15, | ||||||
| 5 | 2012; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, He was born on May 29, 1925 to Fred Wayne and | ||||||
| 7 | Stella Kalaher Snodgrass; he married Phyllis May Fitzpatrick on | ||||||
| 8 | August 23, 1948 and together they raised 3 children; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in | ||||||
| 10 | World War II in the Pacific; he enjoyed the Veteran's Day | ||||||
| 11 | celebrations hosted by the Carlinville School District where he | ||||||
| 12 | was a guest speaker for his great-grandchildren's classes, | ||||||
| 13 | telling them to all join the Navy so they would have a nice | ||||||
| 14 | comfortable bed instead of sleeping on the cold, hard ground | ||||||
| 15 | like you have to do in the Army; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, He worked for over 30 years for G. H. Schanbacher | ||||||
| 17 | and Sons painting many churches and places of worship in | ||||||
| 18 | Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana; he retired from | ||||||
| 19 | painting and worked for the State of Illinois at the | ||||||
| 20 | Jacksonville Developmental Center until his retirement; he | ||||||
| 21 | then served as a Doorman for the Illinois Senate, where he | ||||||
| 22 | received recognition certificates from the Illinois Senate, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | and where he regaled his co-workers as well as the Senators | ||||||
| 2 | with very amusing stories, most of which he made up; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, He served on the County Board for Macoupin County | ||||||
| 4 | and was active in political circles in the area; he was an | ||||||
| 5 | active participant in his faith, serving as the Grand Knight of | ||||||
| 6 | the Virden Knights of Columbus as well as being a member of the | ||||||
| 7 | 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; he participated and assisted | ||||||
| 8 | with the bingo nights as well as the charity fund drives for | ||||||
| 9 | the Knights of Columbus, enlisting his grandkids in helping | ||||||
| 10 | during the annual Tootsie Roll drives; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his | ||||||
| 12 | brothers, Francis W. Snodgrass and James Snodgrass; his | ||||||
| 13 | sisters, Loretta Ranger, Dorothy Barnes, and Marie Heien; and | ||||||
| 14 | his grandson, Fred Joseph Snodgrass III; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Fred Snodgrass is survived by his loving wife of | ||||||
| 16 | 63 years, Phyllis; his daughters, Pam (Peter) Gebhardt and | ||||||
| 17 | Linda (Charlie) Fritz; his son, Fred J. (Barb) Snodgrass, Jr.; | ||||||
| 18 | his grandchildren, Jodi (Dennis) Jamieson, Nick (Caroline) | ||||||
| 19 | Gebhardt, E. Michael Smith, Laura (fiance, Chad Thomas) | ||||||
| 20 | Snodgrass, Steven Snodgrass, Brian Snodgrass, and Josh | ||||||
| 21 | (Jessica) Fritz; his great-grandchildren, Dalton, Kayla, | ||||||
| 22 | Shelbi, and Payton Jamieson, Kayelea-Ann Smith, Cole Gebhardt, | ||||||
| 23 | Jocelyn, Jake, and Jordayn Fritz; his sister, Eileen Banner; | ||||||

| 1 | and numerous nieces and nephews who all have stories to tell of | ||||||
| 2 | "Uncle Fred" and when he came to stay with them while traveling | ||||||
| 3 | for his job; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 6 | his family, friends, and the members and staff of the Illinois | ||||||
| 7 | Senate, the passing of Fred Snodgrass; and be it further
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 9 | presented to the family of Fred Snodgrass as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 10 | sincere sympathy.
