| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Richard Marks "Dick" Joy of Champaign, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on July 3, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Richard Joy was born in Elmhurst to Clifford | ||||||
| 6 | Whitney and Phyllis Rose Marks Joy; he graduated from York High | ||||||
| 7 | School in Elmhurst, the University of Michigan, and the | ||||||
| 8 | University of Illinois College of Law, where he was an editor | ||||||
| 9 | of the law review; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Richard Joy clerked for Illinois Supreme Court | ||||||
| 11 | Chief Justice Robert C. Underwood; he was a former partner at | ||||||
| 12 | the law firm of Dobbins, Fraker, Tennant, Joy, & Perlstein in | ||||||
| 13 | Champaign, and most recently, a partner at Tummelson Bryan & | ||||||
| 14 | Knox in Urbana; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Richard Joy was an active member of his community, | ||||||
| 16 | chairing committees and serving on various boards; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Richard Joy loved to travel and delighted in | ||||||
| 18 | seeing the world with both of his wives; he was an avid reader, | ||||||
| 19 | with subscriptions to dozens of magazines and newspapers, all | ||||||
| 20 | of which he would regularly tear apart in order to share | ||||||
| 21 | different articles with his network of friends, family, and | ||||||

| 1 | acquaintances; he enjoyed playing golf and sleeping on the | ||||||
| 2 | couch while golf was on television; he was a passionate | ||||||
| 3 | Fighting Illini fan with season tickets to both football and | ||||||
| 4 | basketball for 50 years; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Richard Joy was preceded in death by his wife of | ||||||
| 6 | 37 years, Diane Bound Joy; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Richard Joy is survived by his wife of eight | ||||||
| 8 | years, Genevieve Kottemann Joy; his son, Stephen, his wife, | ||||||
| 9 | Barbara, and their son, Oliver; his son, David, and his wife, | ||||||
| 10 | Megan; his stepson, Rudy, his wife, Emily, and their daughters, | ||||||
| 11 | Amber, Subree, and Claire; his stepdaughter, Marnie Wells, and | ||||||
| 12 | her husband, David; his sister-in-law, Mary Montie, and her | ||||||
| 13 | family; and his sisters, Dee Joy Coulter, Sue Joy-Sobota, Jinny | ||||||
| 14 | LaRock, and Sally McKittrick and their families; therefore, be | ||||||
| 15 | it

| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Richard Marks "Dick" Joy, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 19 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to the family of Richard Joy as an expression of our | ||||||
