2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Debbie Duncan Reed of Quincy, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 4, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed was born to Linda Mary Duncan and | ||||||
6 | John David Duncan on February 11, 1965; she attended Unity | ||||||
7 | High School, where she was in band, played sports, and raised | ||||||
8 | and sold Christmas trees for 4-H; she was later crowned Adams | ||||||
9 | County Pork Queen in honor of her work supporting Illinois | ||||||
10 | Pork Producers; she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism | ||||||
11 | and Mass Communication from Drake University; she married Dr. | ||||||
12 | Brennan Reed, and they lived in St. Louis, Missouri at the | ||||||
13 | start of their marriage while Brennan was completing his | ||||||
14 | residency; she obtained her Master of Arts in Leadership from | ||||||
15 | Bellevue University in 2006 and her Doctor of Philosophy in | ||||||
16 | Organizational Leadership from Concordia University in 2021; | ||||||
17 | and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed began her non-profit career working | ||||||
19 | with the American Lung Association; following her husband | ||||||
20 | Brennan's residency, they moved back to Quincy, where Debbie | ||||||
21 | created her own marketing and publishing firm, The DDR Group; | ||||||
22 | while she enjoyed her stint in entrepreneurship, her passion | ||||||
23 | for helping people led her back to the world of non-profits; |

1 | she began a 30-year career at Chaddock to support children in | ||||||
2 | need, where she excelled and moved from from director of | ||||||
3 | marketing to president/CEO; during her tenure, she combined | ||||||
4 | her non-profit and entrepreneurial experience to expand | ||||||
5 | Chaddock's mission and played a pivotal role in achieving | ||||||
6 | major milestones at Chaddock, including building a LEAD | ||||||
7 | certified cottage and the opening of the new Chaddock School, | ||||||
8 | the Chaddock satellite school in Carthage, and the Knowledge | ||||||
9 | Center at Chaddock; and

10 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed also shared her passion for | ||||||
11 | leadership through her blog, Reed about Leadership, and | ||||||
12 | authored two books, Attachment Theory in Action and Raising | ||||||
13 | the Challenging Child; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed made national and international | ||||||
15 | impact in leadership roles through the United Methodist | ||||||
16 | Association (UMA), where she was recently featured as a | ||||||
17 | keynote speaker and was honored with the UMA Mission Award; | ||||||
18 | she was a lifelong member of the Ellington Presbyterian | ||||||
19 | Church, contributing to the church session, the Vacation Bible | ||||||
20 | School experience, and countless church dinners; she led the | ||||||
21 | Ellington Hilltoppers 4-H Club, receiving the Dale Donley 4-H | ||||||
22 | Leader of the Year Award for her work; recently, she was | ||||||
23 | recognized by her local community, receiving the KHQA Hometown | ||||||
24 | Hero Award and being named a YWCA Woman of Impact; and

1 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed, with her infectious spirit and | ||||||
2 | never-ending patience, was known for always looking for | ||||||
3 | opportunities to help people in need and solve problems and | ||||||
4 | for always finding time for friends and family, traveling, and | ||||||
5 | investing in her community; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed was preceded in death by her father; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Debbie Reed is survived by her husband of 38 | ||||||
9 | years, Brennan; her sons, Tanner and Landon; her mother; her | ||||||
10 | brother, Doug (Kim) Duncan; her sister, Donna (Mike) Jansen; | ||||||
11 | her brother-in-law, Brian (Mary Jo) Reed; and many nephews; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Debbie Duncan Reed and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
16 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
