| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Robert J. Schmitt of Naperville, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on February 27, 2010; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Robert Schmitt was born October 15th, 1934 in | ||||||
| 6 | Chicago, graduated from Lane Tech High School, and served in | ||||||
| 7 | the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War; | ||||||
| 8 | after the Navy, he was a chef at many Chicago-area restaurants, | ||||||
| 9 | including the Ambassador East Hotel, Pheasant Run, and Andy's | ||||||
| 10 | Steak House; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Robert enjoyed spending time with his eight | ||||||
| 12 | children and his wife of forty years, Patricia; Robert's life | ||||||
| 13 | centered around his large family and spending every moment of | ||||||
| 14 | free time coaching (for twenty-five years, he coached his sons' | ||||||
| 15 | Little League teams), supporting, and watching every single | ||||||
| 16 | baseball, basketball, and softball game; cooking elaborate and | ||||||
| 17 | delicious meals for enormous family celebrations and holidays; | ||||||
| 18 | and encouraging and loving his children in all their | ||||||
| 19 | educational, vocational, and personal aspirations; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, He was above all else, a loving and dedicated | ||||||
| 21 | father; Robert was a man of strong faith; he was a very active | ||||||
| 22 | member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville, serving | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | as a Eucharistic minister, religious education teacher, and | ||||||
| 2 | chef for many religious functions; Robert was also a man who | ||||||
| 3 | instilled in his children many important values and lessons: | ||||||
| 4 | the values of reading and education (all of his children | ||||||
| 5 | graduated from college, many of them are teachers), of respect, | ||||||
| 6 | love, and hard-work, and of commitment and dedication to family | ||||||
| 7 | and friends; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Emily, | ||||||
| 9 | his sister Carol, and his parents, Edward and Agnes Schmitt; | ||||||
| 10 | and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Robert Schmitt is survived by his wife, Patricia | ||||||
| 12 | (nee, Paara); his children, Katie, Michael, John (Emily), Joe | ||||||
| 13 | (Kyle), Rob (Carrie), Dave (Darla), Sandi, and Cindi; his | ||||||
| 14 | brother, Edward; and his five grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 17 | his family and friends, the passing of Robert Schmitt; and be | ||||||
| 18 | it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Robert Schmitt as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 21 | sincere sympathy.
