2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Mary Alice Kramer, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | December 26, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer was born to Raymond and Helen | ||||||
6 | (Gehmen) Strassburger in Decatur on December 29, 1942; she | ||||||
7 | graduated from Champaign High School in 1960 and Mercy | ||||||
8 | Hospital School of Nursing in 1963; she married Henry E. | ||||||
9 | "Woody" Kramer on January 25, 1964, and they welcomed Woody's | ||||||
10 | youngest sisters, Anicia Kramer and Cami (Kramer) Pisklak, | ||||||
11 | into their family in 1976; she earned a Bachelor of Arts from | ||||||
12 | Eastern Illinois University in 1990; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer's nursing career spanned the | ||||||
14 | course of 45 years, including working as a nurse at Mercy | ||||||
15 | Hospital in Champaign and as an office nurse with Dr. Stanley | ||||||
16 | Huffman in Mattoon; her career culminated serving as the | ||||||
17 | school nurse for Charleston Community Schools, from which she | ||||||
18 | retired in 2007; and

19 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer was an active member of St. | ||||||
20 | Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston, where she | ||||||
21 | served as the organist for the church choir for more than 40 | ||||||
22 | years; she was named a Woman of Distinction by the Springfield |

1 | Illinois Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in June 2014; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer loved music, sewing, and | ||||||
3 | baking, especially at Christmas time and when her | ||||||
4 | grandchildren visited; she and her family hosted numerous | ||||||
5 | exchange students from around the world over the years; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer was a devoted wife to her | ||||||
7 | husband and a dedicated mother to her children and their | ||||||
8 | various activities, including serving as a leader of her | ||||||
9 | children's 4-H club, the Charleston Cloverettes, and attending | ||||||
10 | hundreds of sporting and music events; she will be remembered | ||||||
11 | for her generous, caring, and giving spirit; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | husband, her parents, and her sisters, Elizabeth Engelbrecht | ||||||
14 | and Irene Schlorff; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Mary Alice Kramer is survived by her children, | ||||||
16 | Liane Foerder, Alice (Mike) Dutler, Kevin Kramer, Letha (Lisa | ||||||
17 | Watkins) Kramer, Ellen (Bryan) Ericson, and Lauren (Ryan | ||||||
18 | Anderson) Kramer; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Dustin) Gay, | ||||||
19 | Becca Foerder, Lexi Foerder, Christian Dutler, Abby Dutler, | ||||||
20 | Matthew Dutler, Livia Kramer, Henry Kramer, Griffin Kramer, | ||||||
21 | Hannah Ericson, Owen Ericson, Charlotte Kramer-Watkins, and | ||||||
22 | Isaac Kramer-Watkins; therefore, be it
