| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Diane Grace Zimmer Fascione of Oak Park, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on April 16, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Diane Fascione was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to | ||||||
6 | Ralph and Ina Orqvist Zimmer, who instilled in Diane and her | ||||||
7 | brother their pride in their Finnish heritage; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Diane Fascione loved music and was an extremely | ||||||
9 | talented singer; she used this talent in the choir at the First | ||||||
10 | United Church of Oak Park and the Encore Chorale; she was also | ||||||
11 | an art enthusiast, as well as a talented actress and teacher; | ||||||
12 | she had a great passion for theater and painting, which she | ||||||
13 | imparted to her children and the students she taught; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Diane Fascione met her husband, Chris, in the back | ||||||
15 | of a taxi in January 1985, as they both waited with the | ||||||
16 | director, the driver of the cab, for the theatre to be opened | ||||||
17 | for the rehearsal of a play in which they were both cast; the | ||||||
18 | script was "not very good" but led to a partnership bonded by | ||||||
19 | their shared love of laughter, The Princess Bride, and vanilla | ||||||
20 | malts; and

21 | WHEREAS, Diane Fascione was a leader in her community, the |

1 | welcome committee and social fabric and organizer of her 500 | ||||||
2 | and 600 block Woodbine family, and an advocate for the | ||||||
3 | underdog; she was known as Diane "Glimmer of Hope" Zimmer to | ||||||
4 | many, as she possessed an innate sense of citizenship and | ||||||
5 | sought truth and equality for all; she worked passionately for | ||||||
6 | peace and justice in the area, hosting postcard-writing parties | ||||||
7 | for Democratic candidates and causes in which she believed; she | ||||||
8 | donated her time and talent to many causes, including animal | ||||||
9 | rescue and nature conservation; she was the author of a regular | ||||||
10 | voting guide to judicial vacancies in the area and the | ||||||
11 | coordinator of the local chapter of POCHA, a support group and | ||||||
12 | resource for parents of children with allergies; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Diane Fascione made meaning out of everything; she | ||||||
14 | strived to seek anything that would inspire awe and would point | ||||||
15 | people toward life's meaning; she learned about the game of | ||||||
16 | baseball so that she could bond with her husband and, later, | ||||||
17 | her sons; she embraced National Independent Bookstore Day | ||||||
18 | because it involved some of her favorite activities, reading, | ||||||
19 | walking, and hugging; she became another sister to her | ||||||
20 | sisters-in-law and was particularly supportive during their | ||||||
21 | mother's battle with Parkinson's disease; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Diane Fascione is survived by her husband, Chris; | ||||||
23 | her sons, Nick and Andrew; her brother, Matt; her | ||||||
24 | sisters-in-law, Secky and Nina; and many nieces, nephews, and |

1 | friends; therefore, be it

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Diane Grace Zimmer Fascione and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
5 | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | ||||||
6 | it further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Diane Fascione as an expression of | ||||||
9 | our deepest sympathy.
