| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Roy E. Boren of Herrin, who passed away | ||||||
| 4 | on March 9, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, He was born May 17, 1919, in Herrin, to Thomas and | ||||||
| 6 | Lylian (Everly) Boren; he was united in marriage with Mary | ||||||
| 7 | Belle Francis on July 9, 1938, in Jackson, Missouri; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, He formerly co-owned and operated with his wife, | ||||||
| 9 | Mary Belle, the Boren's IGA grocery stores in Herrin, | ||||||
| 10 | Harrisburg, and Carbondale; he was a longtime director of the | ||||||
| 11 | Herrin Security Bank Board and retired as director emeritus for | ||||||
| 12 | Herrin Security Bank; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, He was a deacon and taught boy's Sunday school | ||||||
| 14 | class at First Baptist Church in Herrin; he was a veteran of | ||||||
| 15 | the United States Navy during World War II, serving with the | ||||||
| 16 | Seabee's in Guam and Okinawa; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, He and his wife loved to travel throughout the | ||||||
| 18 | world with their family and close friends, Bob and Dorothy | ||||||
| 19 | Mercer, Ruth Wilma, and Tommy Colombo; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, His memberships included but were not limited to: | ||||||

| 1 | lifetime membership in the Herrin Elks, Baker-Ladd VFW Posts | ||||||
| 2 | 1567, Herrin American Legion Post 645, Herrin Chamber of | ||||||
| 3 | Commerce, Herrin Better Business Association, to which he was | ||||||
| 4 | the biggest promoter and supporter, Herrin United Way, | ||||||
| 5 | volunteer at the Herrin Hospital for 15 years, former member of | ||||||
| 6 | the Herrin Kiwanis's Club, Oddfellows Club, and Executive | ||||||
| 7 | Committee Director of the Illinois Food Retailer's | ||||||
| 8 | Association; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, He was one of the founding organizers of | ||||||
| 10 | HerrinFesta Italiana and was honored as a Special Guest in | ||||||
| 11 | 2011; he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the | ||||||
| 12 | Herrin Chamber of Commerce in 2006; and assisted with | ||||||
| 13 | coordinating the Mayor Quaglia's Thanksgiving Dinner for the | ||||||
| 14 | citizens of Herrin; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; | ||||||
| 16 | his siblings, Helen Long, Mike Boren, Woodrow Boren, and twin | ||||||
| 17 | sister, Faye Musgrave; his niece, Lynne Rae Hindman; his | ||||||
| 18 | nephew, Ronnie Musgrave; his brother-in-law, Paul Francis; and | ||||||
| 19 | his close friends, Bob Mercer, Ruth Wilma, and Tommy Colombo; | ||||||
| 20 | and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Roy Boren is survived by his daughter, Brenda | ||||||
| 22 | Preston and Ed Schullian; his sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry | ||||||
| 23 | Boren and David and Amy Boren; his grandchildren, Amy Suchadoll | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | and her husband, Jeff, James Neal Preston and fianc�e, Sarah | ||||||
| 2 | Varoujean, Brian Preston and fianc�e, Beth Foster, Joshua | ||||||

| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 14 | his family and friends, the passing of Roy Boren; and be it | ||||||
| 15 | further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to the family of Roy Boren as a symbol of our sincere | ||||||
| 18 | sympathy.
