| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
| 3 | recognize the National Conference of State Legislatures on its | ||||||
| 4 | work over the past half-century; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The National Conference of State Legislatures | ||||||
| 6 | (NCSL) was founded in 1975 and has evolved during the years to | ||||||
| 7 | become the premier organization solely dedicated to serving | ||||||
| 8 | state and territorial legislators and legislative staff; it | ||||||
| 9 | will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, NCSL was created from the merger of three | ||||||
| 11 | organizations that served or represented state legislatures | ||||||
| 12 | and that shared the belief that legislative service is one of | ||||||
| 13 | democracy's worthiest pursuits; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, NCSL is a bipartisan organization with the | ||||||
| 15 | objectives of advancing the effectiveness, independence, and | ||||||
| 16 | integrity of state legislatures, fostering interstate | ||||||
| 17 | communication and cooperation, and ensuring states a strong, | ||||||
| 18 | cohesive voice in the federal system; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, State legislatures are America's laboratories of | ||||||
| 20 | democracy and have continually demonstrated the ability to | ||||||
| 21 | tackle emerging challenges; state legislatures are where | ||||||

| 1 | people from very different backgrounds, representing very | ||||||
| 2 | different communities, can come together and find common | ||||||
| 3 | ground; NCSL has facilitated the exchange of ideas, provided | ||||||
| 4 | critical research and information, and encouraged a rigorous | ||||||
| 5 | review of complex issues confronting our communities, states, | ||||||
| 6 | and nation, striving to strengthen the bonds between America's | ||||||
| 7 | state legislatures and the international community; therefore, | ||||||
