SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Alice Christine Saudargas; and
WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was born on May 18, 1916 in
Fairdale; and
WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas graduated with a master's degree
in education from Northern Illinois University; while there,
she met her husband, Alex Saudargas; and
WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas worked as a special education
teacher before becoming principal of Elmwood Center, a school
for emotionally disturbed children; she retired from the school
district in 1986; during her career, she led committees to help
make the Rockford schools more inclusive of all children and to
maintain the legacy of West High School; and
WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was the oldest serving school
board member in the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was honored by the City of
Rockford in 2011 with an "Alice Saudargas Day" for her lifelong
contributions and commitment to Rockford, education, and
children; and

WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was preceded in death by a
daughter; and
WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas is survived by 9 children; 16
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and the hundreds of
students she supported and mentored throughout her long career;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
family and friends, mourn the passing of Alice Christine
Saudargas; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Alice Saudargas as an expression of
our sympathy.
