SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Karen Elizabeth Rieck of Chicago and
4Des Plaines, who passed away on November 11, 2023; and
5 WHEREAS, Karen Rieck was born to William C. and Shirley V.
6(Ilg) Rieck in Chicago on May 25, 1965; she received a degree
7in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and
8 WHEREAS, Karen Rieck was the manager of the family-owned
9Ace Hardware in Park Ridge for many years; she worked as a
10reading specialist for Chicago Public Schools for almost 30
11years, teaching thousands of children how to read; and
12 WHEREAS, Karen Rieck supported the Norman B. Barr Camp in
13Williams Bay, Wisconsin; and
14 WHEREAS, Karen Rieck enjoyed going on adventures and road
15trips and visiting Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; she especially
16enjoyed spending time in nature; most of all, she loved her
17family; and
18 WHEREAS, Karen Rieck was preceded in death by her parents;

1 WHEREAS, Karen Rieck was the wife of Ronald J. Banks; the
2mother of Lucas (Zoe Schmidt) Banks; the sister of Susan
3(Joel) Finkle, Barbara (John) Malm, and Linda (Paul)
4Riportella; the owner of her dog, Spot; and the aunt of many;
5therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Karen Elizabeth Rieck and extend our sincere condolences to
9her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
