SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of David A. Holcomb of Milan, who passed
away on November 16, 2023; and
WHEREAS, David Holcomb was born to Harry and Esther
(Formhals) Holcomb in Morris on January 8, 1936; he graduated
from Morris High School in 1954; he earned his Bachelor of Arts
and Master of Arts in Music Education from Illinois State
University; he served in the U.S. Army, playing baritone horn
in the 5th U.S. Army Band and in the U.S. Army Band in Germany
for several years; he married Gail Emerson in Morton in 1969;
and
WHEREAS, David Holcomb taught music in the Rock Island
Public Schools for 34 years; he also served as the band
director of Ambrose Jazz for a time; and
WHEREAS, David Holcomb was a well-known jazz pianist in
the Quad Cities, playing in numerous venues throughout the
area; he was known for his ability to entertain with both his
music and his wit; and
WHEREAS, David Holcomb was preceded in death by his
parents and his siblings, Joel, Henrietta, Rachel, Ruth, and

Carl; and
WHEREAS, David Holcomb is survived by his wife of 54
years, Gail; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and
great-nephews; and his poodles, Billie and Oscar; therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
David A. Holcomb and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
