| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Bruce Simon of Springfield, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on October 23, 2023; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was born to Fred and Nancy (Fell) | ||||||
| 6 | Simon in Chicago on December 9, 1948; he spent his younger | ||||||
| 7 | years in Gary, Indiana; he earned his bachelor's degree in | ||||||
| 8 | political science from Indiana State University, where he was | ||||||
| 9 | student body president; he served as a medic and drug | ||||||
| 10 | counselor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he married | ||||||
| 11 | Marguerite Feeley on July 25, 1987; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon worked for Indiana U.S. Senator Vance | ||||||
| 13 | Hartke and then as a legislative liaison at a variety of state | ||||||
| 14 | agencies providing human services; after leaving state | ||||||
| 15 | government, he had a successful career as a lobbyist for more | ||||||
| 16 | than 25 years, primarily representing clients in healthcare | ||||||
| 17 | related fields; he was also a co-founder of The Association of | ||||||
| 18 | Safety Net Community Hospitals in Illinois and helped to | ||||||
| 19 | establish the Medicaid data warehouse; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was involved in many community | ||||||
| 21 | programs, including serving as a member of the Springfield | ||||||
| 22 | Public School Foundation; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was the recipient of many awards for | ||||||
| 2 | outstanding public service to people in need; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan, | ||||||
| 4 | and he was a proud founding member of the bipartisan White Sox | ||||||
| 5 | Caucus in Springfield; he was devoted to his family and | ||||||
| 6 | reveled in their activities and accomplishments, and he | ||||||
| 7 | cherished spending time with them, including going to the | ||||||
| 8 | movies and on family vacations to Disney World, Coronado, | ||||||
| 9 | Michigan, and Ireland; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon will be remembered as a selfless, | ||||||
| 11 | thoughtful, and compassionate man; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 13 | his brothers, Ed Simon and Bobby Simon; his nephew, Tom | ||||||
| 14 | Zimmerman; and his parents-in-law, Jim Feeley and Mary Beth | ||||||
| 15 | Feeley; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
| 17 | children, Eileen (Patrick) Besler, Mary Kate Simon, and | ||||||
| 18 | Michael Simon; his grandchildren, Peter Patrick and William | ||||||
| 19 | Bruce Besler; his sisters, Leslie (Bob) Zimmerman and Mary | ||||||
| 20 | (Mike) Groves; his brothers, Dave (Karen) Simon, Gerry (Donna) | ||||||
| 21 | Simon, Mike Simon, and Danny (Alison) Simon; his aunt, Fran | ||||||

| 1 | Fell; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, | ||||||
| 2 | and sisters-in-law; therefore, be it

| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 5 | Bruce Simon and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
| 6 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
