2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 26, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was born to Scott W. Lantz Jr. | ||||||
6 | and Wanda "Rosie" Waller Lantz in Springfield on January 25, | ||||||
7 | 1952; he attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated | ||||||
8 | from Griffin High School; he attended Loyola University and | ||||||
9 | received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Cardinal | ||||||
10 | Glennon College; he achieved his Master of Divinity from | ||||||
11 | Kenrick Seminary and his master's degree in education from | ||||||
12 | Saint Louis University; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was a retired priest of the | ||||||
14 | Diocese of Springfield in Illinois; he was ordained a deacon | ||||||
15 | in May 1977 and ordained a priest at the Cathedral of the | ||||||
16 | Immaculate Conception on May 27, 1978; he received the papal | ||||||
17 | honor of Chaplain to His Holiness, which was conferred on | ||||||
18 | August 23, 2002; and

19 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz faithfully served every | ||||||
20 | appointment made by the Diocese of Springfield, including St. | ||||||
21 | Peter in Quincy, Quincy Notre Dame High School, Ss. Peter and | ||||||
22 | Paul in Alton, Christ the King in Springfield, Griffin High |

8 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz served the Diocese of | ||||||
9 | Springfield in many capacities through the Office for Lay | ||||||
10 | Ministry, the Office for the Diaconate, and the Office for | ||||||
11 | Ministry Formation; he was bestowed the honor of pastor | ||||||
12 | emeritus from Christ the King in Springfield in 2022 for | ||||||
13 | demonstrating exceptional service and leadership within the | ||||||
14 | church community; and

15 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz's service to the Diocese took | ||||||
16 | him on many pilgrimages of faith around the world; most | ||||||
17 | notably, he was provided the rarest opportunity to | ||||||
18 | concelebrate mass with Pope John Paul II in 2001; he also | ||||||
19 | enjoyed traveling with his family and closest friends; he was | ||||||
20 | well loved by his parishioners, students, and family, creating | ||||||
21 | bonds that lasted a lifetime; and

22 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was preceded in death by his | ||||||
23 | parents; and

1 | WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz is survived by his sister, Debby | ||||||
2 | Lantz; his brothers, Mike (Paula) Lantz, Tim (Kitty) Lantz, | ||||||
3 | Mark (Karen) Lantz, Steve (Mary Ann) Lantz, and Jeff Lantz; | ||||||
4 | his uncle, Fr. Gary Lantz; 11 nieces and nephews; 12 | ||||||
5 | great-nieces and great-nephews; his friends who were like | ||||||
6 | family; and his brother priests; therefore, be it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
9 | Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz and extend our sincere | ||||||
10 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
11 | him; and be it further
