| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Meghan Cristin O'Brien, who passed away | ||||||
| 4 | on March 1, 2015; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Meghan O'Brien was born on April 19, 1982 in | ||||||
| 6 | Winfield; her parents were Kenneth and Judith (nee Plautz) | ||||||
| 7 | O'Brien; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Meghan O'Brien graduated from Marengo Community | ||||||
| 9 | High School in 2000; she subsequently attended McHenry County | ||||||
| 10 | College for 2 years, where she was a member of the tennis team, | ||||||
| 11 | and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where | ||||||
| 12 | she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Communication in | ||||||
| 13 | 2004; she went on to earn her Masters of Sports Management in | ||||||
| 14 | 2006 and later a Masters of Education; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Meghan O'Brien worked for the Southern Illinois | ||||||
| 16 | Minors baseball team as the box office manager; she also | ||||||
| 17 | student taught at Southern Illinois University as a teacher's | ||||||
| 18 | assistant and a teacher; later, she moved to Tennessee to work | ||||||
| 19 | for the Jackson Generals Minor League Baseball team as the | ||||||
| 20 | merchandise manager; after moving back to Huntley, she worked | ||||||
| 21 | as a teacher's aide for special education at New Trier; in | ||||||
| 22 | August of 2012, she became a teacher at Kenwood Academy in Hyde | ||||||

| 1 | Park; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Following her diagnosis of Stage IV lung cancer, | ||||||
| 3 | Meghan O'Brien spent 2 1/2 years as an advocate and speaker | ||||||
| 4 | regarding her disease; she had a strong desire to educate and | ||||||
| 5 | reduce the stigma associated with lung cancer; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Meghan O'Brien loved the outdoors, camping, | ||||||
| 7 | hiking, tennis, and much more; she was very proud of her Irish | ||||||
| 8 | heritage and traveled to Ireland; she also enjoyed using her | ||||||
| 9 | artistic abilities, especially making jewelry, and spending | ||||||
| 10 | time with her family and friends; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Meghan O'Brien was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 12 | paternal grandparents, Kenneth ("Boompa") and Elaine O'Brien, | ||||||
| 13 | and her maternal grandmother, Dolores Plautz; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Meghan O'Brien is survived by her parents, Ken and | ||||||
| 15 | Judy O'Brien; a brother, Ken (Andrea) O'Brien; a sister, Katie | ||||||
| 16 | (Scott) Benson; 6 nieces and nephews, Aiden, Brady, Kailey, | ||||||
| 17 | Aubrey, Jack, and Maddie; her grandfather, Chuck Plautz; her | ||||||
| 18 | many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends; and her beloved | ||||||
| 19 | dog, Maxi May; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||

| 1 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Meghan Cristin | ||||||
| 2 | O'Brien; and be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to the family of Meghan O'Brien as an expression of | ||||||
| 5 | our sympathy.
