SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mabel Rosetta Kinser Cole, who passed
4away on April 17, 2015; and
5 WHEREAS, Mabel Cole was born on August 16, 1910 east of
6Virden; her parents were John Michael and Ellen Otey Kinser;
7she married George Allen Cole on April 5, 1931 at her parents'
8home west of Greenfield; and
9 WHEREAS, Mabel Cole moved to Greenfield at the age of 9;
10after graduating from Greenfield High School in 1928, she
11attended 6 weeks of training at Illinois State Teachers College
12in Normal and began teaching in a one-room country school; and
13 WHEREAS, Mabel Cole led 4-H clubs, taught Sunday school
14classes, and was actively involved in the Home Bureau while
15raising her children; she then resumed teaching school by
16accepting the position to teach Head Start in Nilwood; she
17later taught at schools in Girard and Palmyra; and
18 WHEREAS, Mabel Cole was an avid reader a writer of poems,
19prose, and short stories; she also loved writing contest
20entries and won several prizes, including a trip to the New
21York World's Fair, while a member of the Springfield Contest

1Club; and
2 WHEREAS, In 1991, Mabel Cole was honored by Lt. Governor
3Corinne Wood with the Illinois Woman of Achievement Award; she
4was also inducted into the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame in 2007
5and was the last surviving founding member of the Silver
6Strands Senior Citizens Center in Palmyra; and
7 WHEREAS, As a child, Mabel Cole attended Wesley Chapel
8Church east of Virden; she later attended Greenfield First
9Baptist Church, where she held membership throughout her life;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Mabel Cole was preceded in death by her parents;
12her husband; 2 brothers, Guy and Lynn Kinser; a sister, Floy
13Kinser Chapman; and a grandson, Jonathan Vial; and
14 WHEREAS, Mabel Cole and her husband were the parents of 4
15children, David (Shirley), Gale (Joy), Nancy Vial, and Kendall
16(Charlot); they also had 13 grandchildren, 33
17great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren;
18therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Mabel Rosetta Kinser
