2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Jeanne R. Bengtson of Gurnee, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on March 4, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jeanne Bengtson was born in Ludington, Michigan to | ||||||
6 | Russell and Catalina (Dowland) Vorce on June 16, 1919; she | ||||||
7 | graduated from Ludington High School and married John R. | ||||||
8 | "Roger" Bengtson in Ludington on September 15, 1938; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jeanne Bengtson modeled in fashion shows and had a | ||||||
10 | successful career managing the fashion department at | ||||||
11 | Montgomery Ward & Company in Ludington; she organized fashion | ||||||
12 | shows for charity events and wrote a column called "Jeanne | ||||||
13 | Says", giving advice on the latest fashion trends; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Jeanne Bengtson was a strong swimmer in her youth, | ||||||
15 | and loved to go to the beach and swim in Lake Michigan; in her | ||||||
16 | later years and into her 90s, she would drive her car, "Baby", | ||||||
17 | to the lakefront every day to take in the views; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jeanne Bengtson was an avid golfer and played | ||||||
19 | regularly at Lincoln Hills Golf Club and in tournaments around | ||||||
20 | Illinois; her hobbies included playing bridge and other card | ||||||
21 | games; she was a member of the Elks Club, the Ludington Boat |

1 | Club, the Ludington Yacht Club, and the Lincoln Hills Golf | ||||||
2 | Club; she was a parishioner of St. Simon Catholic Church in | ||||||
3 | Ludington; she and her husband were longtime members of the | ||||||
4 | Ludington Yacht Club and boated for many years, enjoying long | ||||||
5 | trips and cruising to various ports along Lake Michigan; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Jeanne Bengtson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
7 | husband of over 50 years, John; her son, Jon Bengtson; and her | ||||||
8 | brother, Jacque Vorce; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jeanne Bengtson is survived by her daughter, Jill | ||||||
10 | (Jerry) Nerheim; her son, Jack (Judy) Bengtson; her | ||||||
11 | daughter-in-law, Karen Bengtson; her grandchildren, Lori | ||||||
12 | Nerheim, Julie (David) Scroggins, Steve (Kimberly) Nerheim, | ||||||
13 | Michael (Andraea) Nerheim, Beth (Scott) Morey, Ryan (Nicole) | ||||||
14 | Bengtson, Jon Bengtson, and Josh Bengtson; her | ||||||
15 | great-grandchildren, Mary Ann, Christopher, and Mabel | ||||||
16 | Scroggins, Elyce and Steffen Nerheim, Mason, Grace, and Matthew | ||||||
17 | Nerheim, Reece, Makenna, and Callan Morey, and Holly and | ||||||
18 | Addison Bengtson; her brother, Russel (Nancy) Vorce; her | ||||||
19 | sister, Louise "Weedie" Thomsen; and numerous nieces and | ||||||
20 | nephews; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
23 | Jeanne R. Bengtson, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
