SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Patrick E. Mahoney of Western Springs,
who passed away on March 22, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney grew up near 60th and Campbell
Streets; he was struck by polio before he entered kindergarten
and still learned to play table tennis through the Chicago Park
District; he graduated from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign; he and his wife, Jeanne, raised their family
in Beverly, and later, Western Springs; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a personal-injury lawyer; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was affectionately known as the
"Angel of St. Angela's" and volunteered much of his time to
help the school, located on the West Side of Chicago; he did
everything from substitute teaching, to buying paper and
pencils, to fundraising, and even dispensing legal advice; 21
years ago he became President of the St. Angela School Board
and many say the school would not be open if it weren't for
him; he was also a longtime supporter of Misericordia, a
residential facility for people with developmental
disabilities, serving as its legal advisor; he also supported
St. Francis Xavier University; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a polio survivor; he achieved
all of his success with an atrophied right arm, which he used
for teachable moments at St. Angela's; he always viewed the
school as a safe haven for kids; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney enjoyed playing table tennis,
pool, basketball, and softball; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney is survived by his wife, Jeanne;
his daughters, Maureen Dickinson and Peggy Kennedy; his sons,
Tom and Terry; his brother, Timothy; and his 12 grandchildren;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
Patrick E. Mahoney, and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Patrick Mahoney as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
