SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of LeRoy Ernest Wegener of Volo, who passed
away on May 8, 2013; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener was born on October 19, 1931, in
Volo; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener graduated from Grant High School in
1949; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener was employed as a dairy farmer and
milk distributor; after retirement, he worked as a security
guard for 15 years; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener's heritage in farming developed
into a passion for gardening, where he found joy in continuing
to provide for his family; he carefully tended his large
vegetable garden every year and enlisted anyone on the property
to help weed and water; the ultimate expression of his hobby
was Wegener Corn Day, an annual family gathering to pick,
prepare, and freeze sweet corn in traditional barn raising
fashion; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener served in his church and community

in a variety of leadership roles; he served as a trustee for
the Village of Volo for the last 12 years; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener was preceded in death by his father
and mother, Henry and Rose; his sisters, Agnes and Rosemary;
his brother, Leo; his grandson, Neil; and his daughter-in-law,
Sylvia Wegener; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Wegener is survived by his beloved wife of
61 years, Lorena Grace; his children, Linda (Dennis) Volling,
Francine Meyer, Larry (Kathy) Wegener, Brenda (Kent) Hansen,
Yvonne (Patrick) Neal, Nancy (Marc) Doubleday, Rose (Bob)
Campbell, Tim Wegener, Nadine (Kingston) Bowen, Andrea (Chris)
Manahan, and Amy (Leith) Camden; his grandchildren, Tricia,
Neil, Joshua, Benjamin, Nathanael, Elizabeth, Meghan,
Thaddaeus, Lisa, Adam, Laura, Allison, Nicholas, Morgan,
Carolyn, Brian, Daniel, Michael, Timothy, Paul, Nicole,
Madison, Kendall, Renee, Paul, Johanna, Steven, Scott, Amy
Beth, Jacob, Kingston, Constance, Connor, Curtis, Courtney,
Henry, Grant, Hayden, Levi, Nathan, Andrew, and Jane; his 11
great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Sister Marilyn Wegener,
Raymond Wegener, and Rita Heil; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of LeRoy Ernest Wegener;

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of LeRoy Wegener as an expression of
our sympathy.
