SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Robert G. Rice of Benton, who passed away
on September 2, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rice was born on August 1, 1915, in Benton;
his parents were Om-er and Daisy (Moore) Rice; he married Rose
Dallape on January 27, 1940; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rice served his country with pride and
distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World
War II until his honorable discharge; and
WHEREAS, After serving in the military, Robert Rice and his
wife started Rice Produce, which later became Rice Foods; he
successfully ran the business until his retirement in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rice was an active member and supporter of
North Benton Baptist Church for more than 70 years; he and his
wife were ardent supporters of Benton and Rend Lake College and
established the first endowment fund at Rend Lake College to
guarantee a perpetual annual scholarship to assist Rend Lake
College students; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rice and his wife were named the Benton

Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year in 1993 for their
service in the community; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rice was preceded in death by his parents;
his son, Robert Douglas Rice; his brother, John Rice; his
sister-in-law, Wilma Rice; his sister, Betty Rice Jones; his
brother-in-law, Bertis Jones; and several brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rice is survived by his wife, Rose Dallape
Rice; his daughter, Eleanor Rice Glenn and her husband, Nealy;
his daughter-in-law, Maureen German Rice; his grandchildren,
Michelle Glenn Mote (Keith), Kristin Glenn Haycocks (Ian),
Cheryl Glenn (Weslyn), Elisabeth Rice (Pete) Fung, and Daniel
Rice (Rosslind); his great-grandchildren, Erica Mote, Erin
Mote, Haydn Haycocks, Gus Haycocks, Jordan Fung, Jacob Fung,
Caleb Fung, Devrah Fung, Braden Rice, Zachary Rice, and
Nicholas Whitlock; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of Robert G. Rice; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
