SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert G. Rice of Benton, who passed away
4on September 2, 2011; and
5 WHEREAS, Robert Rice was born on August 1, 1915, in Benton;
6his parents were Om-er and Daisy (Moore) Rice; he married Rose
7Dallape on January 27, 1940; and
8 WHEREAS, Robert Rice served his country with pride and
9distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World
10War II until his honorable discharge; and
11 WHEREAS, After serving in the military, Robert Rice and his
12wife started Rice Produce, which later became Rice Foods; he
13successfully ran the business until his retirement in 1985; and
14 WHEREAS, Robert Rice was an active member and supporter of
15North Benton Baptist Church for more than 70 years; he and his
16wife were ardent supporters of Benton and Rend Lake College and
17established the first endowment fund at Rend Lake College to
18guarantee a perpetual annual scholarship to assist Rend Lake
19College students; and
20 WHEREAS, Robert Rice and his wife were named the Benton

1Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year in 1993 for their
2service in the community; and
3 WHEREAS, Robert Rice was preceded in death by his parents;
4his son, Robert Douglas Rice; his brother, John Rice; his
5sister-in-law, Wilma Rice; his sister, Betty Rice Jones; his
6brother-in-law, Bertis Jones; and several brothers-in-law and
7sisters-in-law; and
8 WHEREAS, Robert Rice is survived by his wife, Rose Dallape
9Rice; his daughter, Eleanor Rice Glenn and her husband, Nealy;
10his daughter-in-law, Maureen German Rice; his grandchildren,
11Michelle Glenn Mote (Keith), Kristin Glenn Haycocks (Ian),
12Cheryl Glenn (Weslyn), Elisabeth Rice (Pete) Fung, and Daniel
13Rice (Rosslind); his great-grandchildren, Erica Mote, Erin
14Mote, Haydn Haycocks, Gus Haycocks, Jordan Fung, Jacob Fung,
15Caleb Fung, Devrah Fung, Braden Rice, Zachary Rice, and
16Nicholas Whitlock; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore,
17be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of Robert G. Rice; and be
21it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
