SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Roscoe Garrett of Lake Forest, who passed
away on March 13, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on
July 9, 1923 to Logan T. and Rose (nee Bosch) Garrett; he spent
his childhood in West Allis and Milwaukee, with an interlude of
2 years in Portland, Oregon; he graduated from West Allis
Central High School in 1939 and married Jeanne Lucas on
September 7, 1943; he served his country in the United States
Army during World War II, fighting under General Patton during
the Battle of the Bulge; he was awarded a Bronze Star for
heroism in battle and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant while in
Europe; he was able to begin his college studies while in the
Army, attending the University of Maine and completed a
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the
University of Wisconsin, graduating cum laude in 1948; and
WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett began work as an engineering
draftsman at the Allen Bradley Corporation and enjoyed a
successful career in engineering and business for the next 41
years; he was the President and Chief Operating Officer of the
Riley Corporation, a publicly listed company, for several
years, and subsequently was the general manager of the same

business under a series of parent companies, including US
Filter, Ashland Oil, and Ametek; he retired from Ametek in
1989; and
WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett and his wife were active in the
Deerfield community; they were also active members of Holy
Cross Catholic Church in Deerfield; they enjoyed many long-held
friendships in Deerfield and were involved in several
charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett was preceded in death by his wife
of 67 years, Jeanne; his sister, Carol Denig; his daughter,
Sally; his granddaughter, Maria; and his son, John "Jack"; and
WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett is survived by his sons, Scott
(Susan) and Paul (Sharon); his grandchildren, Brett (Maryam),
Elizabeth Mettler (Matt), Alison, and Ben; and his
great-grandchildren, Abigail and Logan; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Roscoe Garrett, and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

our deepest sympathy.
