SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ferdinand J. "Fred" Strang Sr. of
4Woodstock, who passed away on April 23, 2013; and
5 WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was born in Zams, Triol,
6Austria, on July 26, 1923, to Joseph and Marie (Greener)
7Strang; he married Ruthella "Midge" Latham on July 31, 1943; he
8served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific
9Theatre; and
10 WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was the owner and operator of
11Fred's Upholstery in Woodstock, which he founded in 1946, and 3
12generations later members of his family still serve customers
13at the shop; and
14 WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was a longtime member of St.
15Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock; he loved to fly and was very
16proud to have obtained his pilots license; he enjoyed gardening
17and traveling and was a longtime member of the Woodstock Moose
18and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
19 WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was preceded in death by his
20parents; his wife; his daughter, Kathleen; his brother, Herman;
21and his sister, Pauline; and

1 WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. is survived by his son, Fred
2(Janice) Strang Jr.; his daughters, Mary Jo (James) Montalbano
3and Kristine (Rick) Rasmusen; his grandchildren, Steven
4Strang, Craig (Tina) Strang, Erin (Jason) Hitchcock, Jennifer
5Cobb, Megan (Jake) DeWalt, Rick (Amber) Rasmusen Jr., and
6Michael (Emily) Montalbano; his great-grandchildren, Kayla,
7Jackson, Riley, Jovie, Haley, Hope, Tommy, Benjamin, Jayne,
8Joseph, Makenna, Madylin, and Ryder; his brother, George
9Strang; his sisters, Mary Ann Spurgeon and Josephine Leden; and
10many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Ferdinand Strang Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Ferdinand Strang Sr. as an
18expression of our deepest sympathy.
