SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Ferdinand J. "Fred" Strang Sr. of
Woodstock, who passed away on April 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was born in Zams, Triol,
Austria, on July 26, 1923, to Joseph and Marie (Greener)
Strang; he married Ruthella "Midge" Latham on July 31, 1943; he
served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific
Theatre; and
WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was the owner and operator of
Fred's Upholstery in Woodstock, which he founded in 1946, and 3
generations later members of his family still serve customers
at the shop; and
WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was a longtime member of St.
Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock; he loved to fly and was very
proud to have obtained his pilots license; he enjoyed gardening
and traveling and was a longtime member of the Woodstock Moose
and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife; his daughter, Kathleen; his brother, Herman;
and his sister, Pauline; and

WHEREAS, Ferdinand Strang Sr. is survived by his son, Fred
(Janice) Strang Jr.; his daughters, Mary Jo (James) Montalbano
and Kristine (Rick) Rasmusen; his grandchildren, Steven
Strang, Craig (Tina) Strang, Erin (Jason) Hitchcock, Jennifer
Cobb, Megan (Jake) DeWalt, Rick (Amber) Rasmusen Jr., and
Michael (Emily) Montalbano; his great-grandchildren, Kayla,
Jackson, Riley, Jovie, Haley, Hope, Tommy, Benjamin, Jayne,
Joseph, Makenna, Madylin, and Ryder; his brother, George
Strang; his sisters, Mary Ann Spurgeon and Josephine Leden; and
many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Ferdinand Strang Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Ferdinand Strang Sr. as an
expression of our deepest sympathy.
