2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Dale E. Rhodes of Colona, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on April 28, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes was born to Clarence and Pearl | ||||||
6 | (Thomas) Rhodes in Lafayette, Indiana on October 19, 1938; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Fowler, Indiana High School in 1956, and he | ||||||
8 | participated in basketball and track, setting the school | ||||||
9 | record for the 100-yard dash in 1956; he served in the U.S. | ||||||
10 | Army in Korea from 1956 to 1958, during which he played | ||||||
11 | basketball for the Army; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, After returning from military service, Dale | ||||||
13 | Rhodes started working as a safety director for Ringle | ||||||
14 | Express, Inc. in Fowler, Indiana; he married Marilyn Freeland | ||||||
15 | at Sacred Heart Church in Fowler, Indiana on June 13, 1959; | ||||||
16 | after Ringle Express opened a second location in the Quad | ||||||
17 | Cities in 1960, he transferred to that location in Illinois; | ||||||
18 | and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, After retiring from the trucking industry, Dale | ||||||
20 | and Marilyn Rhodes owned and operated Countryside Tearoom in | ||||||
21 | their home while traveling across the Midwest to partake in | ||||||
22 | craft shows; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes loved sports and coached little | ||||||
2 | league basketball and baseball in Geneseo; his biggest joy | ||||||
3 | came from watching his children, grandchildren, and | ||||||
4 | great-grandchildren play sports and participate in | ||||||
5 | extracurricular activities; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
7 | his in-laws, Bernard and Catherine Freeland; his son-in-law, | ||||||
8 | Richard Gilman; his brothers-in-law, James Freeland and George | ||||||
9 | Grieves; his sisters-in-law, Joyce, Phyllis, Jan, and Mary | ||||||
10 | Freeland; his niece, Mary Miller; and his nephew, Mark | ||||||
11 | Grieves; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his | ||||||
13 | sister, Doris Bird; his children, Cathy Gilman, Chris (Jim) | ||||||
14 | Nordstrom, and Richard (Sofia) Rhodes; his grandchildren, | ||||||
15 | Shane, Jenica (Blake) Scheib, Brenden (Erica) Nordstrom, | ||||||
16 | Jamisen (Meghan) Nordstrom, Chance (Lexy) Nordstrom, Jarron | ||||||
17 | Nordstrom, Elizabeth Rhodes, Olivia Rhodes, and Jennifer | ||||||
18 | Rhodes; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, | ||||||
19 | brothers, sisters-in-law, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Dale E. Rhodes and extend our sincere condolences to his |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Dale Rhodes as an expression of our | ||||||
5 | deepest sympathy.
