| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, More than 600,000 people in the United States are | ||||||
| 3 | estimated to develop venous
thromboembolism or clots in the | ||||||
| 4 | veins every year; of these, about 400,000 people develop deep
| ||||||
| 5 | vein thrombosis of the legs; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Pulmonary embolism, a serious and potentially | ||||||
| 7 | fatal complication of vein
thrombosis, affects at least 200,000 | ||||||
| 8 | people in the United States annually; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Surgeon General has declared that 100,000, and | ||||||
| 10 | perhaps as many as 180,000,
individuals die directly or | ||||||
| 11 | indirectly as a result of deep
vein thrombosis and pulmonary | ||||||
| 12 | embolism each year; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Atrial fibrillation, a potentially serious | ||||||
| 14 | cardiac condition characterized by an
irregular heart rhythm, | ||||||
| 15 | affects more than 2 million people in the United States and can | ||||||
| 16 | lead to
thromboembolic strokes; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Through public awareness, the State of Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | seeks to minimize the frequency of
deep vein thrombosis, | ||||||
| 19 | pulmonary embolism, and thromboembolism resulting from atrial
| ||||||
| 20 | fibrillation among all Illinois citizens and those who visit | ||||||
| 21 | the State; therefore, be it
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare October of | ||||||
| 3 | 2015 as Thrombosis Awareness Month; and be it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the
importance of the ongoing | ||||||
| 5 | fight against deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and | ||||||
| 6 | strokes
caused by atrial fibrillation.
