1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Annabel Abraham, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | October 5, 2018 at the age of 97; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham was born in Syracuse, New York in | ||||||
6 | 1921; when she was very young, she traveled to Europe with her | ||||||
7 | mother, where she attended school in Geneva, Switzerland; she | ||||||
8 | graduated high school and attended Northwestern University at | ||||||
9 | the age of 15, where she earned a Master of Arts in Speech | ||||||
10 | Therapy; she received a medal from the Italian Government for | ||||||
11 | her mastery of Italian; she married Bernard M. Abraham; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham began her teaching career in Gary, | ||||||
13 | Indiana, working to help support her husband as he finished his | ||||||
14 | Ph.D. in chemistry; in 1953, she and her husband moved to Oak | ||||||
15 | Park, where she taught in parochial and public schools and also | ||||||
16 | helped stroke patients who were suffering from aphasia; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham supported her husband, Bernard, | ||||||
18 | throughout his career of elected public service in Oak Park; | ||||||
19 | following his death, she continued to be active in informal | ||||||
20 | public service; she volunteered at the Ernest Hemingway | ||||||
21 | Foundation and was an advocate for improved handicap access; | ||||||
22 | and

1 | WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham was an avid knitter and enjoyed | ||||||
2 | browsing flea markets, estate sales, and thrift shops; she | ||||||
3 | encouraged her children to read extensively, visit museums, and | ||||||
4 | explore their talents and interests; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham was preceded in death by her | ||||||
6 | husband, Bernard, and her eldest son, Oren Carmi; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham is survived by her children, | ||||||
8 | Daniel, Jesse (Amy Peck), and Abigail; her grandsons, David and | ||||||
9 | Jeremy; and her many friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | Annabel Abraham and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Annabel Abraham as an expression of | ||||||
17 | our deepest sympathy.
