SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jackie Marie Morris of Kansas City,
4Kansas, who passed away on February 19, 2019; and
5 WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was born to the late Denver and
6Onighter (Smith) Morris on October 7, 1955; she earned a
7Bachelor of Arts in Education and Speech Communication from
8Monmouth College and a Master of Science in Urban Education
9from Kansas State University, as well as many other
10certifications; and
11 WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was a reading and language arts
12elementary and secondary teacher in District 500 for 32 years;
13she rarely sent students to the principal's office for
14misbehaving and preferred to solve problems inside her
15classroom; she was passionate about getting parents more
16involved in educating children; she loved all of her students;
17she also worked as an adjunct professor at Johnson County
18Community College; for 40 years, she worked as a part-time
19bridal consultant for Halls Country Club Plaza and Crown
20Center; and
21 WHEREAS, Jackie Morris spent her time volunteering and
22working with children in her community; she served on many

1committees, including the Dr. King Jr. Annual Birthday
2Celebration; she was a Big Eight and Big Twelve Conference
3Scholarship Host committee member for 20 years, a cheerleader
4and drill team sponsor for the District for ten years, a debate
5coach, an oratorical contest consultant and judge for the
6Northeast and Rosedale Optimist Clubs, and a summer youth
7employment counselor for Gear-Up and JPTA; and
8 WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was strong in her faith; she joined
9the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church at the age of 11; after
10leaving Olivet, she attended the First Baptist Church in Kansas
11City; she later attended and joined the Palestine Missionary
12Baptist Church, where she volunteered, donated, and worked with
13the church's ministries, especially those involving children
14and youth, for 18 years; and
15 WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was an avid traveler and visited
16most of the United States, Italy, England, France, Switzerland,
17Germany, the Caribbean Islands of Jamaica, and Aruba;
18therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Jackie Marie Morris and extend our sincere condolences to her
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
23further
