| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Jackie Marie Morris of Kansas City, | ||||||
4 | Kansas, who passed away on February 19, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was born to the late Denver and | ||||||
6 | Onighter (Smith) Morris on October 7, 1955; she earned a | ||||||
7 | Bachelor of Arts in Education and Speech Communication from | ||||||
8 | Monmouth College and a Master of Science in Urban Education | ||||||
9 | from Kansas State University, as well as many other | ||||||
10 | certifications; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was a reading and language arts | ||||||
12 | elementary and secondary teacher in District 500 for 32 years; | ||||||
13 | she rarely sent students to the principal's office for | ||||||
14 | misbehaving and preferred to solve problems inside her | ||||||
15 | classroom; she was passionate about getting parents more | ||||||
16 | involved in educating children; she loved all of her students; | ||||||
17 | she also worked as an adjunct professor at Johnson County | ||||||
18 | Community College; for 40 years, she worked as a part-time | ||||||
19 | bridal consultant for Halls Country Club Plaza and Crown | ||||||
20 | Center; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Jackie Morris spent her time volunteering and | ||||||
22 | working with children in her community; she served on many |

| |||||||
1 | committees, including the Dr. King Jr. Annual Birthday | ||||||
2 | Celebration; she was a Big Eight and Big Twelve Conference | ||||||
3 | Scholarship Host committee member for 20 years, a cheerleader | ||||||
4 | and drill team sponsor for the District for ten years, a debate | ||||||
5 | coach, an oratorical contest consultant and judge for the | ||||||
6 | Northeast and Rosedale Optimist Clubs, and a summer youth | ||||||
7 | employment counselor for Gear-Up and JPTA; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was strong in her faith; she joined | ||||||
9 | the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church at the age of 11; after | ||||||
10 | leaving Olivet, she attended the First Baptist Church in Kansas | ||||||
11 | City; she later attended and joined the Palestine Missionary | ||||||
12 | Baptist Church, where she volunteered, donated, and worked with | ||||||
13 | the church's ministries, especially those involving children | ||||||
14 | and youth, for 18 years; and

15 | WHEREAS, Jackie Morris was an avid traveler and visited | ||||||
16 | most of the United States, Italy, England, France, Switzerland, | ||||||
17 | Germany, the Caribbean Islands of Jamaica, and Aruba; | ||||||
18 | therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Jackie Marie Morris and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
22 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
23 | further
