SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois State Senate were
deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Charles L. Cockburn,
of Cleveland, Tennessee, formerly of Lockport, on April 2,
2009; and
WHEREAS, Charles was a former member of the First
Congregational Church in Lockport and a life member of the
Teamsters Union Local #705; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, George
and Roa Lee Cockburn (nee Dunn); his granddaughter, Jackie; his
siblings, James Dunn, Edward Cockburn, Glenn Cockburn, Steven
Cockburn, Cecil Cockburn, Mary Cockburn, and Virginia Hawkins;
and
WHEREAS, Charles is survived by his loving family, his
former wife and friend, Carolyn Cockburn; his children, Martha
Shoemaker, Charles S. (Bernice) Cockburn, Martin (Diane)
Cockburn, Gary Cockburn, Charles D. Cockburn, Randy (Lori)
Cockburn, Susan Diechmiller, and Danny Cockburn; his siblings,
William Cockburn, Flora Lee (Eddie) Epperson, and Willma
Sprietzer; his grandchildren, Jeff Jeremy, Kristie, Nicole,
Jason, Patrick, Caitlin, Matthew, Gary, Phillip, Breanna,
Brandon, Karissa, Kristian, Jennifer, Jarod, Hannah, and

Savannah; his numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and
nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of Charles L. Cockburn; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Charles L. Cockburn as a symbol of
our sincere sympathy.
