SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Duane J. Broomfield of Rockford, who
passed away on February 24, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield was born in Boise City, Oklahoma
on September 18, 1934 to Thurlow and Violet (nee Kittle)
Broomfield; he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and
a 1952 graduate of West High School; he served in the United
States Marine Corps and married Shirley Picchione on November
15, 1958 at St. Anthony Church; and
WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield worked as a carpenter and owned
Winnebago Counter Tops; he was an excellent woodworker and
always helped family and friends with their home remodeling;
and
WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield coached baseball at Kenrock
Community Center and the Rockford Red Wings fast pitch softball
team; he volunteered at Head Start and was a regular blood
donor; he enjoyed vacations, going out to eat with family and
friends, golfing, bowling, and playing cards; he was an avid
Green Bay Packers fan; he loved taking walks with his wife
around the lakes in Geneva while eating a butter pecan ice
cream cone; he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer,

baseball, and football; he attended mass daily with his wife at
Presence Saint Anne; and
WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield was preceded in death by his
parents; his brothers, Buford and Ted, Jr.; his in-laws, Peter
and Tiny Picchione; and his sister-in-law, Linda; and
WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield is survived by his wife of 56
years, Shirley; he was the proud father of Mark, Matt (Lynn),
and Paul; the proud grandfather of Steven (Jamie), Richard,
Alyssa, and Adam; the proud great-grandfather of Cade; the
brother of Vic; and the brother-in-law of David (Zan)
Picchione; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Duane J. Broomfield, and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Duane Broomfield as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
