2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Levada Johns of Chicago, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on February 12, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Levada Johns was born in Parkin, Arkansas on April | ||||||
6 | 1, 1935 to Jewel Wynne and Newt Whitaker; she attended Central | ||||||
7 | High School in Parkin; she married Earl Johns and they settled | ||||||
8 | in Chicago in 1957; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Levada Johns was employed as a factory worker; she | ||||||
10 | worked other jobs at various times, including bartending; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Levada Johns was affectionately know as "Vada" and | ||||||
12 | "Gru-ma", and when she was young, as "Pocket"; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Levada Johns was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
14 | her siblings, Janie Mae, Theopolis, Thomas, Etherean, and | ||||||
15 | Clarence; and her children, Glenda, Betty, and Terry; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Levada Johns is survived by her daughter, Marilyn | ||||||
17 | Johns; her 6 sisters, Edna Scott (Farmer), Helen Freeman, | ||||||
18 | Charlene Wells (Horace), Dorothy Hicks (Jasper), Bettye | ||||||
19 | Bailey, and Eula Nicholas; her 3 brothers, Willie Bailey, Roy | ||||||
20 | Bailey (Thelma), and Courtney Bailey (Sherry); her 14 |

1 | grandchildren; her 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of | ||||||
2 | nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Levada Johns, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | ||||||
6 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Levada Johns as an expression of our | ||||||
9 | deepest sympathy.
