2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of George J. Lacy of Gillespie, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on February 8, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Lacy was born in Buxton, Iowa to Andrew and | ||||||
6 | Elizabeth (Krupar) Lacy on September 15, 1916; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Benld High School in 1935 and married Evelyn I. (Boyd) | ||||||
8 | Lacy in Carlinville on May 1, 1940; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, George Lacy and his brothers, John and Andy, were | ||||||
10 | the owners and operators of Lacy's Appliance & TV in Gillespie; | ||||||
11 | he retired from his business in 1985 after having worked since | ||||||
12 | 1944; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, George Lacy was a tinkerer, inventor, artist, a | ||||||
14 | general jack-of-all-trades, and even an airplane pilot in his | ||||||
15 | youth; his artwork includes many sketches, paintings, and | ||||||
16 | elaborately decorated Easter eggs, in the style of Eastern | ||||||
17 | European "Pysanky"; he was a master cabinet maker and made many | ||||||
18 | pieces of furniture for himself, his family, and others; he | ||||||
19 | built custom kitchen cabinetry for his wife, a uniquely | ||||||
20 | designed bedroom furniture for his eldest daughter, and a | ||||||
21 | playhouse in the backyard for his youngest daughter; his | ||||||
22 | woodworking skills were recognized in a national publication |

1 | for an attic room that he converted to a bedroom for his sons; | ||||||

3 | WHEREAS, George Lacy was a member of the SS. Simon and Jude | ||||||
4 | Church in Gillespie, where he was an honorary member of the | ||||||
5 | Jude Altar Society; he was also a member of the Gillespie Fire | ||||||
6 | Department, the Holy Cross Cemetery Board, and the Welfare Park | ||||||
7 | Association; he was a fourth degree member of the Knights of | ||||||
8 | Columbus; and

9 | WHEREAS, George Lacy was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
10 | his wife, Evelyn; his son, William Lacy; his son-in-law, Jack | ||||||
11 | Stankoven; and his siblings, Andy Lacy, John Lacy, Mike Lacy, | ||||||
12 | Elizabeth Varcho, Ann Lonoski, Helen Aghetta, Marge | ||||||
13 | Verticchio, and Mary Lacy; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, George Lacy is survived by his children, George | ||||||
15 | (Doris) Lacy, Kathryn Stankoven, and Peggy (Alan) Barkley; his | ||||||
16 | daughter-in-law, Dian Lacy; his grandchildren, Richard Lacy, | ||||||
17 | Ron (Anne) Lacy, John (Beth) Stankoven, Karen (Scott) Howard, | ||||||
18 | Michelle (Steven) Lowery, Brad (Jessica) Barkley, and Lacy | ||||||
19 | Barkley; and his great-grandchildren, Nick Lacy, Alex Lacy, | ||||||
20 | Courtney Jones, Jordan Stankoven, Zachary Howard, Brenae | ||||||
21 | Howard, Jacob Howard, "Trip" Lowery, Caden Barkley, Evan | ||||||

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
3 | George J. Lacy, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
5 | further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of George Lacy as an expression of our | ||||||
8 | deepest sympathy.
