2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of The Honorable Charles Patrick "Charlie" | ||||||
4 | Connor of Joliet, who passed away on February 10, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Judge Connor was born in Joliet to John F. and | ||||||
6 | Anna Marie (McCauley) Connor on December 14, 1928; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from St. Patrick's School and Joliet Catholic High School; he | ||||||
8 | then studied engineering at Marquette University and earned his | ||||||
9 | law degree at the University of Chicago; he served in the | ||||||
10 | United States Army during the Korean War; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Judge Connor practiced law at Grey, Thomas, | ||||||
12 | Wallace & O'Brien before taking the bench in 1965; he became | ||||||
13 | Chief Judge of the Twelfth Circuit in 1982; after leaving the | ||||||
14 | bench in 1986, he was elected mayor of Joliet, a position he | ||||||
15 | held from 1987 until 1991; and

16 | WHEREAS, Judge Connor participated in many local groups, | ||||||
17 | including the Joliet Area Historical Society; he was a founding | ||||||
18 | member of the Will County Irish American Society; many people | ||||||
19 | recognized him from his jogging days, when he ran all around | ||||||
20 | Joliet; he was known for his depth of compassion, his zest for | ||||||
21 | life, the strength of his integrity, and the force of his | ||||||
22 | intellect; he was a loving and loyal husband and father and a |

1 | stalwart friend; and

2 | WHEREAS, Judge Connor was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
3 | and his son, Matthew Connor; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Judge Connor is survived by his wife of 50 years, | ||||||
5 | Alice Connor; his children, Tracy (Ron Golec) Connor, Darcy | ||||||
6 | (Richard) Martin, Ted (Michelle Snow) Connor, and Illinois | ||||||
7 | State Representative John (Julie) Connor; his grandchildren, | ||||||
8 | Rocky, Connor, and Alec Martin and Colin, Jack, and Charlie | ||||||
9 | Connor; and his sister, Margaret "Martha" (Jack) Peifer; | ||||||
10 | therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | The Honorable Charles Patrick "Charlie" Connor and extend our | ||||||
14 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
15 | and loved him; and be it further
