| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of
Ralph Spencer of Gillespie, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on March 7, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer was born on February 15, 1921 in | ||||||
| 6 | Womak, near Carlinville; he was the son of Jesse H. and Mayme | ||||||
| 7 | Spencer; he married Faye Coffey on February 15, 1942; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer graduated from Carlinville High | ||||||
| 9 | School in 1940; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer and his wife had a long and | ||||||
| 11 | distinguished career as purebred Duroc breeders; over the | ||||||
| 12 | years, the pair sold purebred Durocs in 40 states and in over | ||||||
| 13 | 50 countries; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer was the recipient of numerous awards | ||||||
| 15 | and accolades for his work; in 1983, he received the Illinois | ||||||
| 16 | Seedstock Producer Award; he was inducted into the Illinois | ||||||
| 17 | Swine Producer's Hall of Fame in 1996 in recognition of his | ||||||
| 18 | life-long dedication to the Illinois purebred industry; on | ||||||
| 19 | August 17, 1998, "Ralph Spencer Day" was proclaimed by the | ||||||
| 20 | Governor in recognition of his 60 years of exhibitions at the | ||||||
| 21 | Illinois State Fair; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer was a member of numerous | ||||||
| 2 | organizations, including 4-H, the Macoupin County Fair Board, | ||||||
| 3 | the Macoupin County Pork Producers, the Illinois Duroc | ||||||
| 4 | Association, and the Illinois Pork Producer Association Board | ||||||
| 5 | of Directors; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 7 | and his brothers, Donald and William; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Ralph Spencer is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
| 9 | daughter, Judy Spencer Dona and her husband, John; his son, | ||||||
| 10 | Jack Spencer and his wife, Betty; his sisters, Frances Barnes | ||||||
| 11 | and Mary Clark; his brother, Richard Spencer; his | ||||||
| 12 | grandchildren, Jackie Spencer, Jeffrey Spencer Dona and his | ||||||
| 13 | wife, Charlotte, Christy Spencer-Mull, Steven Spencer and his | ||||||
| 14 | wife, Tori, Jamie Dona, and John Dona; and his | ||||||
| 15 | great-grandchildren, Breanne and Carissa Mull and Katlyn and | ||||||
| 16 | Nathan Spencer; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 19 | his family and friends, the passing of Ralph Spencer; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
