| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of John W. Harper of Gifford, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on March 21, 2011; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, He was born on June 10, 1926, in Gifford, the son | ||||||
| 6 | of Leonard and Nellie (Jeakins) Harper; he attended Gifford and | ||||||
| 7 | Rantoul schools, graduating from Rantoul Township High School | ||||||
| 8 | in 1944; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, He served two years in the United States Army | ||||||
| 10 | during World War II in the Philippine Islands and Japan; upon | ||||||
| 11 | returning home, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, | ||||||
| 12 | retiring after more than 40 years; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, He was a member of the Gifford United Methodist | ||||||
| 14 | Church, the Penfield-Gifford American Legion Post 1153, and a | ||||||
| 15 | charter member of the Gifford Fire Department; he was also the | ||||||
| 16 | radio operator for the Gifford Fire Protection District; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, John Harper is survived by his sisters, Edith | ||||||
| 19 | Brinker and Edna Bowen; his brother-in-law, Herb Bowen; and his | ||||||
| 20 | niece, Janette Eger; therefore, be it

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 3 | his family and friends, the passing of John Harper; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of John Harper as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 7 | sincere sympathy.
