2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of George Gnatovich of Rock Island, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 5, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Gnatovich was born in East Moline to | ||||||
6 | Nicholas and Mary Perkovich Gnatovich on May 27, 1926; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from East Moline High School in 1944; he then began | ||||||
8 | serving in the United States Navy, where he fought in the South | ||||||
9 | Pacific on a Destroyer Escort, the U.S.S. Duffy; he married Joy | ||||||
10 | Skiles in Moline in 1949; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, George Gnatovich began his career with his | ||||||
12 | brother, Sam, at Tri City Food in Moline; they went on to build | ||||||
13 | and own Highland Park Bowl; they later owned Sammy G Lanes; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, George Gnatovich was a member of St. George Greek | ||||||
15 | Orthodox Church; he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing | ||||||
16 | cards, expecially euchre; he was known for his ability to tell | ||||||
17 | jokes; one of his happiest moments was playing free golf at | ||||||
18 | Golfmohr after he turned 90; for many decades, he, his brother, | ||||||
19 | John, and their mother had lunch together every Monday; after | ||||||
20 | their mother's death, they continued the tradition, which grew | ||||||
21 | into what they called the "Monday Lunch Club," and, upon his | ||||||
22 | retirement, George's son, Mark, joined; and

1 | WHEREAS, George Gnatovich was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | parents; his wife, Joy; his son, George Jr.; and his brother, | ||||||
3 | Sam; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, George Gnatovich is survived by his son, Mark | ||||||
5 | Gnatovich; his grandchildren, Lee, Mark "Nick," and Brandy; his | ||||||
6 | great-grandchild, Devin; his brother, John Gnatovich; and his | ||||||
7 | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
10 | George Gnatovich and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
11 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
12 | further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to the family of George Gnatovich as an expression of | ||||||
15 | our deepest sympathy.
