| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Schanks of Bolingbrook, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 17, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Schanks was one of the "founding fathers" of | ||||||
6 | the Village of Bolingbrook, incorporating in 1965; he was | ||||||
7 | instrumental in launching a village-based police and fire | ||||||
8 | department and would park the first Bolingbrook police car in | ||||||
9 | his garage and go door-to-door selling raffle tickets to buy | ||||||
10 | the city's first fire equipment; he served as a trustee on the | ||||||
11 | village's first elected board before being appointed interim | ||||||
12 | mayor in 1967; he would later be elected mayor in 1969 and | ||||||
13 | retain that position until 1973; and

14 | WHEREAS, Bob Schanks and his family settled in the newly | ||||||
15 | constructed Westbury subdivision in 1961; he worked for ComEd | ||||||
16 | in construction services and joined the Bolingbrook Home Owners | ||||||
17 | Association; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Bob Schanks was preceded in death by his sister, | ||||||
19 | Marilyn "Jean" Mitchell; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Bob Schanks is survived by his children, Jeffrey | ||||||
21 | (Pamela), Jerome (Donna), Timothy (Kathy), Joel (Miranda), and |

1 | Daniel (Candy); his former wife, Patricia; his 12 | ||||||
2 | grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; and his brother, | ||||||
3 | Harold (Joan) Schanks; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | former Bolingbrook mayor Bob Schanks, and we extend our sincere | ||||||
7 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
8 | him; and be it further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Bob Schanks as an expression of our | ||||||
11 | deepest sympathy.
