2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Dr. Truman O. Anderson Jr. of Oak | ||||||
4 | Park, who passed away on July 6, 2019 at the age of 92; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson was born to Dr. Truman O. Anderson | ||||||
6 | Sr. and Myrtle V. (Andersen) Anderson on March 26, 1927; he was | ||||||
7 | a native of Chicago's South Side Roseland neighborhood; he | ||||||
8 | grew up in Glenwood and attended Bloom High School in Chicago | ||||||
9 | Heights; he served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy | ||||||
10 | during World War II; he obtained his bachelor's degree from | ||||||
11 | the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1950; he | ||||||
12 | earned his Master of Science in Microbiology in 1952 and his | ||||||
13 | Ph.D. in Microbiology in 1955; he earned his M.D. from the | ||||||
14 | University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Medicine in | ||||||
15 | 1960; he married Mary Ann Heineken in Emden in 1953, and they | ||||||
16 | moved to Oak Park in 1960; and

17 | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson taught at both the University of | ||||||
18 | Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and the Cook County Hospital for 10 | ||||||
19 | years; he held professorships in both medicine and | ||||||
20 | microbiology, including the Keeton Professorship; he | ||||||
21 | transitioned to administration at UIC in 1969; he was the dean | ||||||
22 | of the School of Basic Sciences from 1970 to 1976; he served as | ||||||
23 | executive dean of UIC's four medical campuses in Chicago, |

1 | Rockford, Peoria, and Urbana-Champaign from 1976 to 1980; he | ||||||
2 | established UIC College of Medicine's James Scholar Program | ||||||
3 | for Independent Study, which he led for many years; alongside | ||||||
4 | many of his colleagues, he helped maintain the independence of | ||||||
5 | the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago in 1989; he | ||||||
6 | retired in 2011; and

7 | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson received the Conscience of the | ||||||
8 | College Award in recognition of his lifetime service from UIC | ||||||
9 | College of Medicine in 2007; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson served on the Oak Park and River | ||||||
11 | Forest High School Board from 1978 to 1980; he was active in | ||||||
12 | the Oak Park community for many years; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson was known for the importance he | ||||||
14 | placed on family life, and he reveled in the company of his | ||||||
15 | children and grandchildren; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Dr. Anderson was | ||||||
17 | survived by his children, Mary Beth Logas, Barbara (Richard) | ||||||
18 | Hickey, Truman O. Anderson III (Caroline Humes), and Amy | ||||||
19 | Anderson (David) de Jong; his grandchildren, William Logas, | ||||||
20 | Daniel (Kristen) Logas, Richard Hickey, Meghan Hickey, | ||||||
21 | Elizabeth Hickey, Kelly Hickey, Sean Hickey, Erik Anderson, | ||||||
22 | Eleanor Anderson, Evan de Jong, and Sonja de Jong; therefore, |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Dr. Truman O. Anderson Jr. and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
5 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
6 | it further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Dr. Anderson as an expression of our | ||||||
9 | deepest sympathy.
