| 2 | WHEREAS, The Navy League of the United States was | ||||||
| 3 | established by President Teddy Roosevelt; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The United States Navy is second to none in the | ||||||
| 5 | entire world; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The United States Navy will be launching and | ||||||
| 7 | commissioning ten LCS cruiser ships within the next few years | ||||||
| 8 | to join the fleet under the Freedom class; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The City of Aurora, Illinois, also called the City | ||||||
| 10 | of Lights, is now the second largest city within the State of | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The City of Aurora, consisting of diversified | ||||||
| 13 | industries, considers itself a blue collar town, where many | ||||||
| 14 | have been the first to volunteer to serve their country; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The City of Aurora lost an inordinate number of | ||||||
| 16 | military personnel in comparison to its population in combat | ||||||
| 17 | during World War II; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The City of Aurora, in succeeding conflicts, | ||||||
| 19 | contributed men and materials in the protection of the United | ||||||

| 1 | States as each instance warranted; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The City of Aurora continues to send men and women | ||||||
| 3 | to serve the United States of America; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The City of Aurora is proud of the fact that East | ||||||
| 5 | Aurora High School has the largest JNROTC naval program in the | ||||||
| 6 | nation; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Aurora Council of the Navy League, at its | ||||||
| 8 | monthly meeting on January 18, 2011, approved a resolution to | ||||||
| 9 | be adopted which stated that the citizens of Aurora would be | ||||||
| 10 | honored to have one of the new commissioned ships be named USS | ||||||
| 11 | Aurora; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the President | ||||||
| 14 | and the Secretary of the Navy to name one of the new LCS | ||||||
| 15 | cruiser ships under construction as the USS Aurora in honor of | ||||||
| 16 | the City of Aurora and its many contributions to the welfare of | ||||||
| 17 | the nation; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be given | ||||||
| 19 | to the President and the Secretary of the Navy.
