| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of
Virginia Metze of Oakwood, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on February 7, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Virginia Metze was born on February 8, 1934 in | ||||||
| 6 | Argenta; her parents were Ford Campbell and Grace (Campbell) | ||||||
| 7 | Phegley; she married Gernot Metze on July 13, 1962; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Virginia Metze earned her Juris Doctor from the | ||||||
| 9 | University of Illinois in 1976; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Virginia Metze was retired as the Director of the | ||||||
| 11 | Computer Center at the Materials Research Laboratory at the | ||||||
| 12 | University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Virginia Metze was an active member of her | ||||||
| 14 | community; she supported numerous causes, including the | ||||||
| 15 | University of Illinois Law School, the American Constitutional | ||||||
| 16 | Society, the ACLU, Common Cause, the Bill of Rights Defense | ||||||
| 17 | Committee, the Americans United for Separation of Church and | ||||||
| 18 | State, the Human Society of the United States, the ASPCA, the | ||||||
| 19 | Union of Concerned Scientists, Amnesty International, NARAL, | ||||||
| 20 | the Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club, the Wilderness | ||||||
| 21 | Society, and Eco Partners, among many others; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Virginia Metze enjoyed politics, computers, cats | ||||||
| 2 | and dogs, cooking, reading, beading, knitting, and weaving; she | ||||||
| 3 | also desired to write a mystery novel set in a university | ||||||
| 4 | laboratory; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 7 | her family and friends, the passing of Virginia Metze; and be | ||||||
| 8 | it further
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the family of Virginia Metze as an expression of | ||||||
| 11 | our sympathy.
