SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Walter Turner Edwards, who passed away on
November 14, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Walter Edwards was born on November 11, 1931, in
Waukegan; his parents were Walter P. Edwards and Mattie Turner
Edwards; and
WHEREAS, Walter Edwards served his country with pride and
distinction as a member of the United States Navy during the
Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Walter Edwards attended Waukegan public schools;
he subsequently earned his degree in business administration
from Carthage College; and
WHEREAS, Walter Edwards retired as Director of Finance and
Treasurer of the Waukegan School District in 1996 after many
years of service; and
WHEREAS, Walter Edwards was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Waukegan, AARP Chapter 150, the Waukegan
Little Fort Lions Club, and the American Legion; he was also
involved in the annual crop walk; and

WHEREAS, Walter Edwards was preceded in death by his
parents and his brothers-in-law, Lloyd Coad and William Bald;
and
WHEREAS, Walter Edwards is survived by his wife, Betty; his
daughters, Carolyn (David) Stover and Andrea (Patrick)
Pekkarinen; his grandchildren, Kate and Kevin Pekkarinen and
Melissa Stover; his sister, Barbara (Everette) Coad/Johnson;
his brother-in-law, Robert Jordan; his sister-in-law, Alice
Bald; his nephews, Daryl and Dan Coad; his niece, Susie Brown;
and his many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of Walter Turner Edwards;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Walter Edwards as an expression of
our sympathy.
