| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Bishop Frank M. Munsey of Munster, | ||||||
4 | Indiana, who passed away on February 5, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey was born on August 11, 1930; | ||||||
6 | his parents were Frank and Eva Munsey of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey was the founder and Pastor | ||||||
8 | Emeritus of Family Christian Center (FCC), a mega-church of | ||||||
9 | more than 17,000 in Munster, Indiana, having founded the church | ||||||
10 | in 1953; he remained at FCC until 1985, when his son, the | ||||||
11 | Reverend Steve Munsey, assumed charge of the church; the FCC is | ||||||
12 | known for sermons that fuse the Gospels with high-tech | ||||||
13 | theatrics and its diverse outreach programs; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of and following the example | ||||||
15 | of Bishop Frank Munsey, the Family Christian Center has | ||||||
16 | distributed five million tons of food to local families; the | ||||||
17 | church's hospital ministry sends chaplains to 23 local | ||||||
18 | hospitals; five Correctional Facilities within the Northwest | ||||||
19 | Indiana-Chicagoland area receive hope for a new life through | ||||||
20 | FCC's prison ministry; FCC also provides spiritual and | ||||||
21 | financial help to missionaries in more than 10 countries, | ||||||
22 | supporting orphanages, schools, and churches through world |

| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, In 1985, Bishop Frank Munsey left pastoral care | ||||||
3 | and focused on world missions; he ministered in 105 countries | ||||||
4 | before settling in Sofia, Bulgaria, where, in 1992, he and his | ||||||
5 | wife began the American English Academy, a school that provides | ||||||
6 | excellence in education under a Christian banner in a largely | ||||||
7 | un-churched nation; the academy's 175 students hail from 31 | ||||||
8 | countries; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey was preceded in death by his | ||||||
10 | parents and his siblings, Kenneth Munsey and Frances Munsey; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey is survived by his wife of | ||||||
13 | nearly 60 years, Ruth (nee McConley); his brother, Darrel | ||||||
14 | Munsey (Carolyn); his children, Stephan K. Munsey (Melodye), | ||||||
15 | Joe D. Munsey (Robin), Phillip M. Munsey (Jeannie), and Sheila | ||||||
16 | R. Munsey Gerald (Kevin); his 9 grandchildren; his 10 | ||||||
17 | great-grandchildren; and his many sisters and brothers-in-law, | ||||||
18 | nieces and nephews, friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
21 | his family and friends, the passing of Bishop Frank M. Munsey; | ||||||
22 | and be it further
