1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Martin J. Vota of Taylorville, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on January 8, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Martin Vota was born in Cedar Point on June 12, | ||||||
6 | 1917 to Martin and Katherine (nee Pasqueno) Vota; he and his | ||||||
7 | family moved to Jeisyville and eventually Langleyville; he | ||||||
8 | graduated from Taylorville Township High School in 1934 and | ||||||
9 | joined the Civilian Conservation Corps shortly thereafter; | ||||||
10 | during World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army Air | ||||||
11 | Corps; while in the service, he taught mechanics at Chaunte Air | ||||||
12 | Force Base near Rantoul; he joined the Flying Cadets out of | ||||||
13 | Sikeston, Missouri and served in the European Theater in the | ||||||
14 | later part of the war; he married Dorothy Spisak on May 30, | ||||||
15 | 1953 at Holy Rosary Church in Chicago; and

16 | WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Martin Vota | ||||||
17 | went to the American Television School in Chicago for | ||||||
18 | television engineering; he and Dorothy moved to Decatur and | ||||||
19 | opened Decatur Television Engineers when WAND-TV began | ||||||
20 | broadcasting; in 1966, he and his family moved to Taylorville | ||||||
21 | to sell and repair televisions; he and Dorothy owned and | ||||||
22 | operated Vota TV and Appliances until their retirement in 1989; | ||||||
23 | in his retirement, he enjoyed chronicling his family's |

1 | genealogy, emailing extended family in France and Italy, mowing | ||||||
2 | his yard, working outdoors, and spending time with his loved | ||||||
3 | ones; and

4 | WHEREAS, Martin Vota was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
5 | his brother, Joe Vota; and his sister, Lucy Zarr; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Martin Vota is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his | ||||||
7 | children, Cathy (Marty) Arnold, Martin (Deanna) Vota, Cindy | ||||||
8 | Drea, Lori Ward, and Robin Vota; his grandchildren, Matthew and | ||||||
9 | Katie Arnold, Heidi and Haylen Vota, Andrew and Bridget Drea, | ||||||
10 | and Arika and Keegan Ward; his nephews, Dennis (Carol) Zarr and | ||||||
11 | Richard (Sue) Zarr; and several other nieces, nephews, and | ||||||
12 | cousins; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Martin J. Vota, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
16 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
17 | further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Martin Vota as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
