SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Avril Marie "Babe" Baker of Joliet, who
4passed away on February 4, 2011; and
5 WHEREAS, She was born on November 17, 1930, the daughter of
6the late Armstrong "Bud" and Hazel Hile; she graduated from St.
7Francis Academy; in 1953, she met Dick Baker, a United States
8Marine who had served in Korea; she and Dick were married at
9the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus Parish in Joliet on
10October 9, 1954; and
11 WHEREAS, She was always happiest when in the presence of
12her family; for years, she and her husband assembled the Murphy
13Acres Munchkins for backyard Fourth of July and Labor Day
14celebrations; and
15 WHEREAS, She helped rescue and serve countless abused and
16abandoned animals; she was one of the founding members of the
17Will County Humane Society, and served on its Board of
18Directors for more than forty years; and
19 WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her son, Greg; and
20 WHEREAS, Avril Baker is survived by her beloved husband,

1Dick; their three devoted sons, Mark (Denise) Baker, Fr. Brad
2Baker, and Todd (Kim) Baker; their daughter-in-law, Beth Baker;
3her three grandchildren, Richard Baker, and Bryan and Brianna
4Baker; her sister, Marilyn (late Don) Stein; her brother, Larry
5(Evelyn) Hile; and she was a devoted aunt to many nephews and
6nieces; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9her family and friends, the passing of Avril Baker; and be it
10further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Avril Baker as a symbol of our
13sincere sympathy.
