2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Janice "Jan" Boess Geist, a longtime | ||||||
4 | resident of Des Plaines, who passed away on January 7, 2023; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was born to Murray and Phillipine | ||||||
7 | Boess in Evanston on October 14, 1935; she graduated from | ||||||
8 | Evanston High School and then married Walter Geist; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist worked as a graphic arts designer | ||||||
10 | for many years at the Des Plaines Journal and later at the | ||||||
11 | Contemporary Publishing Group in Chicago; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, After retirement, Jan Boess Geist enjoyed | ||||||
13 | volunteering at the Des Plaines Public Library, where she | ||||||
14 | joined the Friends of the Library group, assisted with the | ||||||
15 | annual used book sales, and helped others learn how to read in | ||||||
16 | their ESL classes; and

17 | WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was actively engaged in the First | ||||||
18 | United Methodist Church in Des Plaines and was on many | ||||||
19 | leadership committees over the years; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was an avid music lover and had |

1 | season tickets throughout her life for the Lyric Opera of | ||||||
2 | Chicago; one of her fondest memories was meeting Luciano | ||||||
3 | Pavarotti and getting his autograph; she was a world traveler, | ||||||
4 | but one of her favorite places to spend time was in Colorado; | ||||||
5 | she was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan her entire life; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist was preceded in death by her | ||||||
7 | parents; her brothers, Murray and Eugene; her sister, Barbara; | ||||||
8 | and her former spouse, Walter; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jan Boess Geist is survived by her children, | ||||||
10 | Walter (Peggy), David (Debora), Richard (Bridgett), and Steven | ||||||
11 | (Ray); her grandchildren, Jason, Natalie, Carrie, Zachary, and | ||||||
12 | Sarah; her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Lucy, and Naomi; and | ||||||
13 | her dear friend, Joanne Maresso; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
16 | Janice "Jan" Boess Geist and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
17 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
