2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great
individuals | ||||||
4 | who have served their country and communities; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Roger Busby was born in Danville to Edwin and | ||||||
6 | Nora Busby on October 21, 1940; he graduated from Young | ||||||
7 | America High School in 1959; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Roger Busby served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to | ||||||
9 | 1967, attaining the rank of Sergeant; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Roger Busby graduated from Eastern Illinois | ||||||
11 | University in 1971 and completed
instruction at the Police | ||||||
12 | Training Institute at the University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Roger Busby devoted his life to public service; | ||||||
14 | he served 12 years as a deputy sheriff for Edgar
County and | ||||||
15 | later worked as an abuse investigator for the Illinois | ||||||
16 | Department of Children and Family
Services; he also was a | ||||||
17 | licensing representative for home day cares until his | ||||||
18 | retirement in 2006; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, In his free time, Roger Busby gave his time and | ||||||
20 | talents to many civic and community organizations,
including |

1 | the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, the Illinois Police | ||||||
2 | Association, Brocton American Legion Post
977, Oakland VFW | ||||||
3 | Post 3637, 40/8, Edgar County Republicans, AMVETS, the Eastern | ||||||
4 | Alumni Association,
the National Rifle Association, and the | ||||||
5 | Illinois State Rifle Association; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Roger Busby served the public on the Brocton Town | ||||||
7 | Board and the Edgar County Sheriff's
Merit Board; he was the | ||||||
8 | precinct committeeman for Embarrass Precinct in Edgar County; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, On August 30, 2013, Roger Busby passed away, | ||||||
11 | leaving behind his wife, two stepchildren, and
three | ||||||
12 | grandchildren; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Roger Busby was "Mr. Edgar County"; he loved all | ||||||
14 | things and all people, especially his wife, Karon, their | ||||||
15 | neighbors, and their many, many family members and friends; he | ||||||
16 | embodied the phrase, "God, family, country"; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF | ||||||
19 | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois | ||||||
20 | Route 49 from US Route 36 to Illinois Route 133 as the "Roger | ||||||
21 | Busby Memorial Highway"; and be it further

1 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
| ||||||
2 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
3 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
4 | giving notice of the name
the "Roger Busby Memorial Highway"; | ||||||
5 | and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Roger Busby and the Secretary of | ||||||
8 | Transportation.
