AN ACT concerning local government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
3-5001 as follows:
(55 ILCS 5/3-5001) (from Ch. 34, par. 3-5001)
Sec. 3-5001. County clerk as recorder; election of
recorder. The county clerk in in counties having a population
of less than 60,000 inhabitants shall be the recorder in his
county.
In counties having a population of 60,000 or more
inhabitants, there shall be elected a recorder, as provided by
law, who shall hold his office until his successor is
qualified.
If the population of any county in which a recorder has
been elected decreases to less than 60,000, the voters of that
county shall continue to elect a recorder if the county board
adopts a resolution to continue the office of an elected
recorder.
