1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
53-5001 as follows:
6 (55 ILCS 5/3-5001) (from Ch. 34, par. 3-5001)
7 Sec. 3-5001. County clerk as recorder; election of
8recorder. The county clerk in in counties having a population
9of less than 60,000 inhabitants shall be the recorder in his
10county.
11 In counties having a population of 60,000 or more
12inhabitants, there shall be elected a recorder, as provided by
13law, who shall hold his office until his successor is
14qualified.
15 If the population of any county in which a recorder has
16been elected decreases to less than 60,000, the voters of that
17county shall continue to elect a recorder if the county board
18adopts a resolution to continue the office of an elected
19recorder.
