Bill Title: Amends the Other Social Services Article of the Illinois Public Aid Code. Provides that in addition to financial aid provided to persons eligible for general assistance under the Code, a township, from moneys received and collected for public aid funds, may establish and administer food banks, food pantries, and programs for providing in-kind aid in meeting basic maintenance requirements to persons who are poor, indigent, homeless, or in need of immediate assistance regardless of their eligibility under the Code.

| 1 | AN ACT concerning public aid. | ||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | ||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly: | ||||||
| 4 | Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by | ||||||
| 5 | changing Section 9-15 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (305 ILCS 5/9-15) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 9-15. Township food pantries. In addition to | ||||||
| 8 | financial aid provided to persons eligible therefor under | ||||||
| 9 | Article VI of this Code, in a county under township | ||||||
| 10 | organization, a township may provide, from moneys received and | ||||||
| 11 | collected for public aid to all persons eligible therefor | ||||||
| 12 | under Article VI of this Code, funds, may establish and | ||||||
| 13 | administer food banks, food pantries, and programs for | ||||||
| 14 | providing in-kind aid in meeting basic maintenance | ||||||
| 15 | requirements, including, but not limited to, food, paper | ||||||
| 16 | goods, toiletries, and clothing, to persons who are poor, | ||||||
| 17 | indigent, homeless, or in need of immediate assistance | ||||||
| 18 | regardless of their eligibility , in addition to financial aid | ||||||
| 19 | provided under this Code. | ||||||
